Overnight rain had been mostly prevented from soaking the track - however the cover caused condensation and the track ended up moist anyway.

A single round of practice kicked things off early to get the drivers ready for qualfying which started at 10am with heat 1. A full 14 heats were to run - with 4 qualifying runs today and one on finals day.
Some re-seeding changes had been made yesterday where drivers were obviously too fast (or slow) for their heat.

The moisture had left the track juicy and much of yesterdays grip had been lost. Still the lap times from yesterday were almost maintained, with small selection of the 24-second best laps coming from Maifield, Cavalieri, and Steven Hartson.

Martin Achter - defending IFMAR double world champion got 37th in round number one. Martin commented that he's holding back for now but will bring the fury soon and surprise many. We have high hopes for Martins chances at the 2015 Worlds in Afghanistan.

Cavalieri stuffed it and held up Tebo

Lee Martin took up the lead

Brian Kinwald just missed out on a top 10 position in rd1 - 11th overall.

Jared Tebo went 2 seconds clear of anyone else for the win in round 1.

Qualifying Round Two
Naoto Matsukura put in a new fastest lap, the best of anyone by far at this meeting with 23.925 - showing he's at least the quickest driver here - but had bad luck with a broken ball cup on his Associated B4 that put him out after 9 laps.

Ryan Cavalieri almost went through for 13 laps for the first time in round two as he took the round a whole 4 seconds ahead of Maifield in second. Jared Tebo was down a little in this round, back in 8th overall and around 8 seconds down on Cavalieri after a crash. BQ man for this round was Team AE boss-man Brent Thielke.

2 x 2WD ROAR champion 2010/2005, 2008 ROAR national champion 1/8th buggy. 2008 IFMAR Worlds TQ in 1/8th.

How long have you been racing R/C cars and what first drew your interest to the hobby?
I’ve been racing 11 years, I used to fly r/c aeroplanes and I worked in a hobby shop, so I got a car from the guy there.

What do you like most about racing r/c cars?
I like to meet new people, the travelling, and obviously the competition.

During the warm-up here a few weeks ago you finished 7th in 2WD, but were down in the C-Final 4wd - what happened?
We had a lot of problems in 4wd with the high winds and big jumps, I went through a lot of shock towers. This has improved now though so there shouldn’t be so many problems here.

What will you be aiming for this week, and what about future ambitions?
Obviously I’m aiming for the win, but my ultimate goal is to see the team succeed.

A huge amount of organisation has gone into making this the coolest race ever, what do you like most about the track, and what do you feel could be improved?
The track is great, it’s kinda a change from the warmup race  - it’s a lot more high speed.

And what about the venue?
Everything about the facility and pit area is amazing, I don’t think they could improve anything, they seem to have it all covered.

What would you say your favourite pie is?
Chicken pie with gravy.

Have you needed to make any setup changes to your car since arriving here?

Only very minor changes, nothing major.

Truhe dances and rides through the whoopy section

Do you feel well supported by the team?
Yes. We tell each other all our secrets.

Is it true that to change a wishbone on the 22 you have to remove the motor (or chassis?)

That’s an arm, right? Technically no! You can change an arm in a few minutes.

Have you broken anything yet?

No.

What are your thoughts about Finland, have you seen any Reindeer?

Finland is nice, very clean and welcoming. Haven’t seen any reindeer though.

Where would you like to see the next World Championships held?

Torrance in California. So I can sleep in my own bed. We don’t have a track yet.

Do you have any messages you’d like us to pass to team-bud Darren Bloomfield?

Keep practicing on the Wii, Stick-e

Round three and Naoto had fixed his car and was ready to do battle. He set off last so had a lot of traffic due to his retirement in the prevous round but it didn't matter than the young warrior was at it like a maniac - smoothly lapping whilst the guys at the front of the heat (Maifield & Cavalieri) battled it out.

Naoto took the lead in the heat early and held onto it all the way to the line as he put in the first 13 lap run of the meeting and took the win. Lots of people came over to take interest in what Naoto was doing after this run!

Naoto our Japanese friend who we've followed since he showed he was very - VERY fast - currently sits only 11th and won't make the A final with this score of course. two good rounds of 6th and 1st are backed up with much lower scores of 29th, 23rd and 124th! He'll be looking to get a good round score tomorrow in the final qualifier - but with some other drivers still to drop low scores it'll be close.

There are much more consistent drivers, with Cavalieri and Maifield both being consistent top 10 - indeed, these two have never scored lower than 6th in round. Maifield has consistently been 2nd or 3rd and is the most consistent of anyone- getting the win however has so far been elusive.

Jimmy hopes Bloomfield won't be pissed off about all the Bloomfield comedy in this report. Much love Daz.
