WE couldn't find a single Kyosho RB5 at the Euro Championships Stu. :( The Tamiya 501X is very popular here though with the finnish guys and Hupo has tested here before so it should do well here.

Yet they cant be bothered to send a team to the euros to see how the car compares, strange.

Kyosho are Japanese at the end of the day, and they will be no doubt putting hours and hours of testing/development in at the track so i'm sure they'll do ok at the Worlds if the right drivers turn up for them.

lol I'll think about it ;)
my car is awesome - I'm just 'exploring its limits' the jumps are MASSIVE and to go fast you have to jump them well. I am getting the fastest laps in my heat 25.1 but not really able to keep it up - hopefully I can throttle back a little tomorrow and keep it going for 5 minutes without crashing. Easier said than done though.
just watxching it all on the cam, but its just practicing today init? anyway, i will look out for you on the track. good luck at winning tomoz, just saw a man in a red shirt, do the "dad run" on the track, lol rofl

Sorry that I haven't been able (due busy schedule) to post here earlier. About the live feed.. YES it's going to have audio tomorrow and Saturday. I just need to find suitable microphone from the store this evening. It really has been very busy here and I just simply haven't had the time to get it done earlier.
It would help a lot if you could then post feedback about the audio quality tomorrow (levels etc) so we can get the best possible result with the resources we have. I'll try to read this thread regularly tomorrow.

Have to say that this site is one of the best if not the best on the web for 1/10 electric. the final hammer for me was reading the euro coverage. It's totally pro. Can't wait for an international event in Toronto (who knows someday) where we'll get awesome coverage by Jimmy.

Is this a typo :eh?:
We received a quick update from the Durango team, who are present at this weeks European Championships in Finland, on todays 4wd practice. Durango team driver Jörn Neumann, who finished 8th in the 2wd class event, set the fastest lap time after 7 rounds of practice just in front of newly crowned 2wd European Champion (http://www.redrc.net/2007/07/neil-cragg-wins-2wd-european-champs/) Neil Cragg, driving the JConcepts BJ4WE, while Tamiya driver Hupo Hönigl ended the day with the 3rd quickest lap time. Friday sees final practice and the beginning of qualifying with the final qualfiying rounds and the finals taking place on Saturday.

How do people forget to marshall? Or is it because the heats are running in a strange order?? Seems like a poor excuse for losing your best time though really...
dave g
27-07-2007, 01:53 PM
yes its because of the staggered heats..its easy to forget,im guesing that because its the finnish lads that are forgetting they may just be wildcard drivers who are unfamiliar with how it works?
copter
27-07-2007, 02:14 PM
Dunno, but Dave G might have a point there. We have never had staggered heats in nationals in Finland as far as I know. In 2WD there was also 3 guys who missed their marshaling turn and suffered penalty, but from those only one was Finnish tho.

there is a 'hole' in the red collar (as pictured in Jimmys report)
from what I understand you stick an allen driver in there and 'turn' the spur (or rear wheels) and it adjusts like a nut
so yes, it can be adjusted on the track, I also belive it has a rubber o-ring in the colloar (like the Trinity shock adjuster collars) so it does not come undone but can be adjusted when you want

Chris. Will you be trying a B44 slipper on your S4?
Chris Doughty
27-07-2007, 06:43 PM
I would certainly like to, but we need to work out the centre driveshaft sizes and see what 'fits' we use them 'backwards' in the S4.

Yeah I had a go today - even though the car was better I didnt drive as fast today... yesterday I was the fastest in my heat, today wasnt so good. the rear camber screws fell out which bent the shock tower mount... also I changed to a different size diff to make the car easier to drive after advise from Hupo, and the diff wouldnt stop slipping so right now I'm running Mike wests rear diff in my car.
I got a decent lap time in that last qualifier but it was hard to be consistent over the jumps - certainly Dave Church will never repeat his last result from today... and to set the record straight, dave actually took me out and then crashed - I crashed next to him after and got marshalled first which made me laugh like a hyena! haha :D:D:D:D:D

Are you able to follow some of the fast guys around the track for a few laps?
Copter, could you tell us a little bit about what equipment you use for the web cam solution? We are considering setting up a similar solution. And since yours work very well we'd like to know how you did it. Do you pan & zoom from the PC?
Sound is great now! Also more than loud enough.

About the zooming and stuff. There will be dedicated camera man on the finals who will "film" the finals. Follow leading cars etc. I can try to follow some cars on the following heats if I have time while Scotty is speaking.
I'll tell you about the solution a bit later how it has been done etc. I'll be happy to guide how to build similar system and might even be able to offer some bandwidth for stream distribution for events.

Some pics that I just took:
http://copter.threewee.com/euros2007/
These pics are from inside the timing booth. You can see some of the equipment from those that we use here.
As you might see that we don't actually have any webcam, we have normal high quality DV camera and picture going from it by using firewire to iMac (running Windows tho, any powerful PC will do). It encodes the picture to VP3.1 format and audio to MP3. That generates about 20 sec delay but should not be a problem. Then the feed is uploaded live to our streaming server (Shoutcast) and it distributes the signal to clients (you). Streaming server is located at remote server room where's fat pipe (155mbit) and so it's possible to deliver high quality feed to multiple clients.
I can explain in more detail later and help with setups etc.
Supergreg
28-07-2007, 07:39 AM
I swear I could see my IP logging in to your computer somewhere ;)

For those who experience bad sound, you probably have a slow connection &/or bad sound card. The sound is very clear now, and also loud enough.

the marshall at no.1 just picked up a seized car, looket at it for like 2 seconds then layed upside down at his marshall point??? wtf?
copter
28-07-2007, 08:46 AM
Ok, we stopped for 30 minutes to wait for better weather. Currently it's too dangerous to marshal since track is so slippery. So there's going to be a pause.
dave g
28-07-2007, 08:50 AM
because as a marshall your not supposed to fix or mess with cars at euro events, that can include turning off the car,so if its broke you lay the car down upside down incase the driver turns his tx off or the car has water damage and becomes a runaway...unless you mean the marshall layed upside down at his marshall point :)

copter
28-07-2007, 09:13 AM
Ok. Sorry that I haven't been able to reply to your questions. It has been a bit busy during last hour. About the team managers meeting.. It was just a normal meeting that had been scheduled already earlier so there was no special reason etc why it were gathered.
About the finals. Like said earlier they will be filmed and you will see close ups from the cars. Look specially for the practice A-final where we have some time to take good looks from the cars.
Because of the team managers meeting I wasn't able to approve round 4 results and overall results until the meeting was finished. This was because I was in the meeting and also all EFRA referees who will check points together with me. So that was the reason for the delay.
About other softwares for time keeping etc, we use Sparc 2 here. Originally we planned to use Jlap and bought it over year ago, but it suffers from bad stability issues and simply there was no point to use it here, so we decided to go with Sparc 2 since it is very reliable and we have been running all warm-up event and last years EFRA GP with it without any problems.
copter
28-07-2007, 09:15 AM
Oh yeah and about the setup.. we also have five 42" TFT displays here showing results. 2 at the pit tent, 2 at the track and 1 at the cafeteria.

copter
28-07-2007, 09:23 AM

Final practice 13.30 and actual finals start at 14.40. Depends from the weather etc naturally. Might be a bit later for the practice at least.

I couldn't wait til the end of the round to get the top 10 so I've attempted to work it out from the results... bear in mind rd 5 hasn't finished at this time but with all due respect I dont think the guys in the lower heats will affect the big round scores:
MY COMPLETE UNOFFICIAL 4WD QUALIFYING TOP 10 IS:
1/ Honigl 2
2/ Taylor 2
3/ Cragg 2
4/ Martin 4
5/ Pinisch 5
6/ Barton 6
7/ Neumann 8
8/ Stafford 8
9/ Cockerill 9
10/ Cree 13
BQ/ Drescher 14
This is just what I've worked out by looking at round results... I think it is pretty close though... congrats to Tom C, great last round drive! Good luck for the mains GB!
