Default melted my idler gear

I recently melted my idler gear on my cat sx (U3346).

I'm wondering why that would happen? Is there anything I can do to avoid it?

I have a 10.5t brushless motor in there and a turnigy 3600 3s lipo.

22t pinion 81t spur..

It is pretty fast, but I was surprised to find the idler melted after a few months of running really nicely. Is it a common problem?

Don't run 3S and a few months is normal wear and tear. No competition 1/10th scale dreivetrain will last very long on 3S.

I guess if I go to 2s things are going to seem a lot slower though. I've kinda got used to the speed.

I haven't done any serious racing yet though, just racing friends and having fun.

Will it seem a lot slower if I go down to 2s?
