Default New track - under astro turf materials

For the various astro turf tracks round the UK what did you use as a base underneath the astro turf?

Anti weed membrane?
A small layer of scalpings which have then been compacted?

Got a track to redo and lay new astro on, but of course we want a smoother track, but sill not touring car smooth. As so people will know TORCH is currently excessively bumpy.

This is at TORCH, so if people want to help then please do so

sharp sand. and LOTs of it.

most tracks tend to dig off the top soil and flatten the soil under that and put sharp sand down, flatten it then lay the astro and peg it into the ground then brush more sharp sand over the astro to level it out and weigh it down.

astro will go over anything (even concreate/tarmac) if you leave ruts from diggers and footprints in the base over time the astro will mould to them and become very rutted.

decide on your type of astro to, the come in short, medium and thick pile, the thicker it is the faster it will drain water and the thinner it is the smoother and more grip you will get off it (i owuld not use the thin stuff they used that at the finals in austria, go see the oople pics when it rained!)
