A couple of years ago i had this collection of mostly Tamiya´s, miss the Top Force EVO and one of the Super Astutes. Note the Dyna Blaster, not so common

I always thought the ZX5 front shocks were medium length and therefore wouldn't work on a stock mid front shock tower as its designed for short shocks but I guess I was wrong!

They're mounted on the yokes, not the wishbones.
Wonder how it would handle like that???

I have them mounted on the outer hole of the wishbone at the front - both front and rear took a bit of meddling to sort the ride height and get the wishbones near horizontal. Biggest change was using Kyosho springs rather than the 3Racing supplied ones and windign the adjusters virtually to the top caps.

Nice collection of Lazers Nick!
I dont know much about lazers, can someone explain me the main differences between the ZX, ZX-R, ZX-RR, ZX-S & ZX-Evolution, not sure about the timeline and if I skip a model.
When I first started with real racing R/C's I begun in the R/C golden years with the Optima and left the hobby when the last Mid was around, the Custom Special. Never really owned one but saw them in the Tower magazines and catalogs. Then came the ZX which looked awesome and from that point on I took a looooong vacation until 2004. During that time I mostly flew(or crashed) RC airplanes, then left the whole RC scene and went to racing Karts and 1:1 road racing cars. In 2004 I returned to the hobby and bought Evaders(really good buggies/trucks for the price), B44's, OFNA, 1/8 buggies and truggies, etc. So a huge chunk of RC history passed without me knowing about it

Well now you all know a bit more about me

So why did Kyosho went to using Yokomo wheels and Losi shocks???? Is'nt kind of weird, using the competition's parts for your product???

Also, so the ZX-S's chassis is better than the Evolution's, having the Evolution the cheaper 3-part chassis?

If you actually read through the Lazer thread youd learn a lot more. I think it all down to preference as the costs were not much different. The one piece on the zxs was basically a we can do this design by kyosho and also used Losi shocks, yok adaptors and wheels plus a lot of bits from the ZXR. I preferred the chassis as it flexed less and had a servo mount on it, but a lot of the top boys preferred the evo chassis which also had all new bits such as hubs, castor blocks, so nothing really was from the zxr, plus you could have more flex but it did damage the front gearbox if you hit something. Its a great car and very stable, only issue I had was there is not enough droop in the standard kit.

To find out exactly why you would have to ask Kyoshos designers.
It isn't that uncommon, through the 90s Yokomos team drivers always used Associated or Losi shocks on their buggies as Yokomos shocks were pretty rubbish. With the ZX-S Kyosho was making a limited edition chassis, the design meant they were never going to sell in great quantities. If Losi shocks are better than the Ultimate shocks Kyosho had, if you are only selling a few hundred kits of the only competition chassis you have it's a lot cheaper to buy in shocks than than set up to manufacture them. As for the wheels, again it's cheaper to buy in others than produce the moulds to only make a thousand wheels, and there's already a plentiful supply of compatible wheels.

It depends on how you think it would be better. The one piece ZX-S chassis isn't 'better' than the Evo one just because it is made in one piece, performance wise it is exactly the same. The Evo chassis is better because if you broke or damaged a chassis it was a lot cheaper to buy a replacement as the chassis was a flat carbon sheet without the moulded in kickup of the ZX-S.
