Default Rattly old B4

I've got a B4 which has run a few seasons before I got it. It's a great car, but has developed a bit of play about the damper pickups and in the steering. Is there a well known set of parts you B4 guys replace to keep the ol' girl fresh? Ta.

For bottom of shocks #7660 - Shock Ballstud
For Top of shocks #6473 - Shock spacer
For steering and all other balljoints #6273/#6271 - Ballstuds & #7230 plastic
Servo to steering #9170

Those are the basic parts, others tend to use Losi or JConcepts plastic fittings on the balljoints as they are meant to be a better fit.

I'd also be tempted to rebuild the shocks with Nortech Whities if the car's been run for a couple of seasons.

More part numbers here: http://aedownloads.com/downloads/dra...awing_b4ft.pdf

Hope it helps

If you are going to replace the ballstuds, try the ones with a socket head (from the TC4 and GT2). They are easier to fit and remove.

Short silver are #6276, long silver are #6277, long black are #3981 - you'll need one pack of each for a whole B4.

The good thing about these is that you can then drill a 2.4mm hole in the top of the ballcups so you don't need to unpop them anymore to make repairs or adjustments, decreasing wear. The downside is that this might make them a shade weaker.

An old B4 may need the below parts:

CVD full set
Outdrives
ballcups
Shock rod ends
Shock bushings

But play isn't necessarily a bad thing, the only parts above which I would replace often are the CVD (perhaps bone only as the pins wear faster than the axle) and the outdrives. Perhaps the ballcups as they can start popping mid race, I like to put RPM ones on when I do change them as they seem to have less play from new and last a little longer.

also check if the shock-oil is grey after a few runs, if that is the case than the shockhousings are worn.

Make sure you make a list and see at what kind of price your looking at, maybe better to look how much more you need to spend to get a new car.

B4 check list:

-Outdrives, essential if there worn you get strange handeling while
your accerating
-Pins in the MIP axles, replace these often and the rest will
last much longer
-Ballcups and ball-ends, like Chris sais best to replace them all after
you notice that ballcups are popping off
-Rearhub bearing (but the newer B44 hubs help a lot)
-Shim the arms to reduce play
-Shockhousings, some B4 kits had terrible shock housings with
very thin anodizing so they would ware very fast. Newer types
seem a lot better
-Shock O-rings, make sure that they aren't sticky. Other wise replace.
-Hingepins, make sure there not bend
-Shockbushings and Eyelet
-Transmission gears, clean and inspect them.

But like I said before if a lot of parts are bad, maybe look at a new car

And the advice keeps coming..

The car is basically in good condition, I think it was pretty well looked after by previous owner but nevertheless has seen some action over the years.

Cheers lads.
