B44 in RC10 1984 box art scheme..
Hi, I'm planning on painting up a new B44 vortex shell in a scheme inspired by the 1984 RC10 box art. (cheers for the raffle, DC!) I think it'd a pretty cool project...
However, I must confess that I'm no expert in shell painting and I'm not too sure how to approach some of the challenges in this project. So I'm hoping that some of you guys might be able to give me some advice or pointers - thanks in advance! First of all, I'm a bit confounded about how to reproduce some of the logos/stickers on the car. There are eps vector versions of at least the ROAR sticker around on the internet, but as for the rest - I have no idea how to even get started. Jimmy, you're in the sticker trade - any advice? It's been suggested to me to try printing out the images from online photos onto paper and use pva glue to stick them to inside of the shell prior to painting - good/bad/mad idea? I am a bit dubious about the durability of this solution, but any advice is appreciated. Associated have very kindly made a downloadable pdf of closeups of the original car so some ref material exists. Finally, any suggestions of the best way to mask off the pinstripes? Thanks in advance for your help - I know that many of you are professional body painters and that it may seem a bit cheeky to ask you all for free advice, but I'm just looking forward to doing this as a fun little project. Cheers, Ty |

Ty you can actually buy reproductions of the original decals, they are printed on clear vinyl and are of the highest quality, I'll try and find them for you and send you the link.

Lets see
Hey dude.
Sounds like a cool idea. When you've finished could you pop some pictures up so we can have a look as the finished spray job? Good luck dude. Andy |

I'm liking that, really good old skool paint scheme. It's come out really well.

Thanks - yeah, I painted the rear tower white.
It picked up these cool aftermarket towers with tons of mounting positions when I was in San Francisco a few weeks ago - only thing is that they were in green "digital camo". Digital Camo is cool for some - but not really my style... |

Hey great work Ty!
Can't wait to see it at EPR in a couple of weeks. I know how much you love your retro gold-tub so the thought of doing the B44 in the original colourway is totally cool. Loving it! Be sure to come and find me at EPR to show it off! |

Now perhaps I'll have to sort out a B4FT boxart paintjob for the RC10... Cheers, Ty |
