Default MR front chassis plate snapped...

Took my MR to it's 1st club racing debut yesterday & had a great 1st day's racing in 20 years. When we'd finished a marshall noticed my whole front end seemed twisted, i then noticed looking underneath that the front chassis plate has snapped, just at the rear of the bumper mounting. I also managed to half rip out & bend one of the two upper screws in the top of the front upper suspension arm holder !

Is this a rare breakage? i only ask as i don't recall havng any significant impact apart from taking landings etc Would there be an upgrade for this area or would this just re-locate the force/breakage somewhere else ?

Its not unusal for that part to break.I,ve seen a few go. I was lucky when a fellow oopler made me up an alloy one which has been brilliant and since fitting it ive hardly broken anything at the front of the car.

Some pics of it in this thread.

Jez and max were both using the plates on an x-pro and an X2c on sunday at bridgford, Our track markers are pretty hard and not forgiving if you give them a good hit.

They seem pretty robust with the plates they have on the bottom and look like a good little mod, Jez has done an excellent job making them

Any car will break if they get a good hit on the front. I have broken a B4 and an X6 Squared chassis in my time, and my friend Wes has done quite a few X6 chassis recently, although he has sourced this down to a badly machined brass front bulkhead. Just be glad on the MR and X2/X2c that you can actually replace the front plate and not have to replace a whole chassis!

Yep saw Jez at the Motoarena last week and had a good look at his car. His front mod looked really strong.

Problem with these upgrades is that if the front lower chassis won't break on impact the main chassis may well do instead

Your right.

Thats why, when I made ours, I took the strengthing plate all the way back and bolted to the main chassis as well - it strengthens the joint between the main chassis and the frontplate also.

Anyone that knows my driving (loads of crashes) will confirm that this has been really put to the test since last summer and hasn't failed yet.
