Default Benefits to removing paint from springs

Hi all,

Many of the top racers remove the paint from their shock springs. Can anyone shed a light on why? Is it because the paint thickness (and thus torsional effect) can be inconsistant btween springs - so to totally "match" springs, you have to remove the paint?

Or is it simply because is looks better as the paint tends to chip off after time?

Is this purely aesthetic or for performance improvement?

Removing the paint will make a change to the rate of the spring.

When I used to race TC I used to hear tales of the top lads removing paint so that their competion couldnt see what rate springs they were using.

Then again, I also heard many top racers telling people that they would never use 2.4Ghz over 40mhz because they could "feel" the different in latency between the two systems.

Mega anal..

Stops your car from looking so gay with all those crazy coloured Losi springs.

It makes such a small difference to the spring rate I'd be amazed if you could honestly say you'd notice the difference.

Dont know why you`d wanna be so tight and anal about removing paint. thought this sport was for fun and so helping other people would advance our hobby. In my opinion colour matching spring to shell make car look a whole lot better. who cares if it helps other people race
