Front and Rear Anti Roll (sway) Bars for XX-4
Hey All,
Can someone post a few pics to get an idea of how to make an anti roll bar for the front and rear? This is assuming they have to be fabricated: unless you guys know where they can be bought.... ifuonlyknew posted a pic of the rear of his buggy and this was a good start; I'd like to know how the bar fit into the ball joint: locking collar just cranked down on both of them or something else? I found a few answers from other forums:
use the parts from LOSA 4257 to attach a piece of .055 piano wire(that you bend yourself) to attach that wire to the "leading" side of the rear shock tower, screw some ball ends into the trailing sides of the rear a-arms. with a piece of either a threaded rod of LONG hew/set screw attach ball ends"back-to-back". attach one end of this deal to the ball end on the a-arm and the other end to the end of the piano with(use a set-screw/ball end that comes with the LOSA 4257 set. The sway bar hardware on my car is actually Associated part #9635. I drilled the holes in the top of the shock tower mounting post (see pic), and put the button head screws into them (after placing the sway bar). Don't tighten the screws too much or it will bind. Basically you want the suspension to be as free as possible when both arms move together. Basically the pic will explain everything. To make the sway bar softer move the ball stud things out from centre on the sway bar. The advantage to this setup over others is you can make it so stiff that when you move one side of the suspension full up the other side will move up about 3mm. Now I never run it this stiff, I usually make it just stiff enough to not move the other side. I use .055 piano wire for my sway bar, although thinner and thicker wire will yield different stiffnesses.
