Orange are doing £30 per month contracts and the phone is free. They also have one of the best 3G coverages

but orange do have a 750mb monthly data cap. They won't cut you off or charge you if you go over it, but if you regularly exceed this by some way then they will "have a polite word" with you about your usage. So depends on how much data you plan to use. If you will be a light user then defo go for Orange for reliability, although their customer service sucked when i was with them

Don't do Orange! My BB drops on average 8 calls a day due to poor signals. My iPhone on O2 regularly has a full signal where Orange has nothing but O2 is a total ripoff when it comes to data and roaming.

Wait for the Vodafone version.

I am on Orange. The signal is very poor, their service is an absolutely shining example of how not to treat your customers and to top it off, the tariffs aren't that hot either (although on some deals they are competitive to be fair). Why am I still on Orange then? I think it's what they call "inertia" in business management school ie, I can't be arsed to do anything about it. However, I too want an iPhone so I may have to start giving it some thought.

Humm it makes in interesting read, I do seem to like the look of the O2 setup more, i cant say ive ever heard a bad word to be fair but if i scour the internet im sure i'd find somthing, but in general from things ive heard about O2 they seem pretty solid.

Ive been into Orange today and had a chat, I think im going to entertain the O2 option

16GB 3gs

the O2 3g network has crashed several times in the last 3 months. They couldn't cope with the demands put on it by the iphone success, and they are widely regarded as having the weakest 3G network with the worst coverage.
I would suggest speaking to a friend in your town who has one already and see how they get on with it for reception.

Default 3G

o2 all the way for me, i was with vodafone 7 years and they tried to shaft me several time, orange was fair on value, but if you travel around then i think o2 is faultless
Ive had my 3g for 16month and will upgrade to the 3gs in 2 months time.
get a car charger chucked in as batteries dont last if you hammer the net
Overall its been the easiest phone to live with that ive had

Watch out for data rates when you travel abroad with O2. I just had a little £300 bil come in from a 4 day visit down to South Africa.

It's fine if you turn off roaming.

Kinda defeats the purpose if you want to use the web/email/etc. I travel quite a lot and most weeks spend 3 days a week in Europe as well. I am trying hard to break my £2500/month phone bill record

I also have BB on Orange which I use along side my iPhone. My BB drops on average 8 calls a day in London and I am yet to actually complete a journey on a single call.
