MRT PTX transponder? confused?
hi there,
me and my brother are going to go halves on a new transponder so i thought i would do some research. i have seen the MYLAPS RC4 transponder and it looks good but at £70 it is too expensive compared to the MRT PTX transponder, why is it so much less money compared to the MYLAPS transponder? can someone confirm this, can i just buy a MRT PTX transponder and fit it to my car and can it be used at my local club? for do you transfer the number of a red transponder onto it? the information if seen here doesn't seem clean. many thanks lewis

if your local club is running ambrc system go for the mrt ptx that is compatible with it and cheaper

The MRT PTX transponder only comes with a choice of 20 numbers. This should be ok for club racing but may clash with others numbers at larger meeting, although i very much doubt it.
The AMB personal transponder, albeit dearer, is unique to you wherever in the world you may race. I have 1 AMB transponder and 2 AMB MRT clones, all with the same number unique to me. Clones are about £40 check out http://www.team-mrt.com/ hth tel |

this is only done if you already own the AMBrc transponder and want an MRT clone so you can keep your AMBrc for two or more cars that you may run

If your brother and yourself plan to run a shared MRT transponder on the same race day you will need to program it to your race numbers for the heats and finals.

me and my brother was not going to use a transponder on the same day. but we intended it for doing the STCC and regionals etc. just big events and when i go to other tracks so which of the two transponders is better? after looking at the video changing the ID number looks difficult. because i race two classes 1/8 nitro buggy and 1/10 electric buggy and my brother races 1/10 electric TC (not all on the same day) we would change the transponder around. would it be ok to fix it using velcro? many thanks for the help lewis

Yes this would be fine i use velcro, I hold all my electrics in my classic TC3 with velcro as it was a pain in the ass to take them out when held in with servo tape,
regarding the transponder i would spend the little extra and get a MyLaps its about the same size of the MrT but you wont have the problem of ever changing the number or even forgetting what you changed it to. Also the MyLaps comes with a cool little clip to hold the transponder to the car, so all you would have to do is get x mount of clips of all the cars. |

TBH none of the MRT users I've spoken to have ever had to change numbers anyway. MRT buy up old dead AMB transponders for the codes, so they have a fairly large stock of numbers.
Whilst I'm fairly sure there could well be someone else out there racing with the same transponder number as my MRT uses, I've never met that person, and he's not in the database of any of the North West clubs! So get the MRT and don't worry.

hi there,
i thought i would get this thread up and going. me and my brother are still looking for a transponder but keep on losing out on ones that come on for sale on here and other forums. i am tempted to go for the MRT but my brother told me that it has to be in a certain place for it to work. he reckons it needs to be on the chassis, i this true? have people had problems with the MRT? many thanks lewis

Think I have 6 of the MRT's which are cloned to my red AMBrc and not one has failed or missed a lap. I have loaned one out before and reprogrammed it to the users race numeber and they had no issues. After I loaned it out I simply reprogrammed as per instructions / video. MRT PT My lastest pt install is on a Maradve alloy chassis bang in the middle just in front of the servo and it is still picked up by the race timing. The one in the video is to the side of the chassis as that was the best place to install it on that car. Mounting the MRT The transponder is not designed to be mounted on the bodyshell as it has to be plugged into your receiver to power it up so needs mounting on the 'chassis'. They can be bought with mounting plates so you can screw it down or you simply use double sided tape or velcro to mount them. All mine are tape mounted and have never broken free.

i will have mine fitted in my cat sx on top of the servo, will this be fine? i would also have mine fitted to my losi 8ight so Velcro will be needed. my brother would also have his mounted to his touring car but he is having trouble finding a place to fit it because he has his receiver on top of his servo. many thanks lewis

My MRT doesn't show any significant difference in transponder signal strength over our loop than anybody elses's AMB/Mylaps ones. Which means that it can be used anywhere the RC4 can - in terms of in the car and at various clubs.
The only thing to consider is that the MRT's come in two types, the cased version and the heatshrink version. I've got the heatshrink one, its a little cheaper and smaller (It was originally bought for a 1/18th) but it is certainly not water or fuel proof, so not suited to a nitro car at all. The cased version is as well sealed as the RC4 is, so fine for nitros.

I have only ever used mrt transponders and i have never had an issue.
Instead of buying one AMB why not just buy 2 MRT transponders and have one each. I also have never had a number clash and i race at club and national level in both micro and rallycross.

Will the MyLaps transponders work worldwide or does something differ between regions / countries. I can't see why they would but you never know.
I guess the question is can I buy one abroad & expect it to work in the UK? |
