The text says USA version includes body and wing.

RC Mushroom are based in Hong Kong, so I imagine this price excludes body and wing.

Hadn't seen the fancy bearings were included too, there's loads more standard in this than the 511, good stuff!

I already got my kit and built it. There are no flourine sealed ball bearings included, i think maybe Tamiya wanted to do this when they did the manual but then decided to pack in normal metal shielded ball bearings as maybe the flurine sealed are too expensive?
For sure is that the kit comes with metal shielded ball bearings.

I remember that there was an issue with the bearing supplier, which caused the delay in the release...

muratti

Correct, but if they had problems with the fluorine selaed ones would it mean that all fluorine sealed ones are damaged or something? I just ordered some

Well I wouldnt want Acer bearings in the car anyhow.
They prematurly fail over time. The metal ones repel dirt better.
Rubber sheilded would be even better. It's cheaper to get
a full set of Bocca bearings than it is acer. A set costs $55.
While the Acer's are over priced at $89
You e-mail Bocca the measurements and they make you some.
As they make bearings for real cars as well.

If you cant get Bocca in your area then maybe try TEAM BLUE STAR.
I have them in my blackfoot xtreme and they last forever!

Ok thanks.
Has anybody got some information if the Front wheels will be released in black and yellow as for the DB01/TRF501/TRF511 cars? I saw some pics of a TRF201 with yellow wheels at the Shizuoka Hobby show but in all information i have read since then there wasn´t even a part number for yellow or black front wheels.

The only option is dying rims. Id rather not try it and just leave 'em white.;)
Black ones might come out. Dont know about yellow.

Thanks, i did the first test run today. It handled well! I now have the manual setup but need some info: what can i do if the rear end is a bit loose on power? In long curves it tends to oversteer too much. I did tighten up the diff a bit and made a little more negative camber on the rear. Is this the right way to go?
Also what oil should be used front and rear? I used Asso 40wt at front a 30wt at rear. Is it too hard at the front?

I race on dirt with Schumacher Mini Spikes yellow front and rear and have a LRP Vector X12 8.5 motor and LRP Sphere TC esc. Both stayed very cool compared to my DB01R.

Any help is much appreciated.

- Less anti-squat
- Softer rear spring
- Front shock more inclined

Its not champ, it would have been there this morning if it didn't get put into customs.

The thing is that Japan comes through Coventry which is the UK Customs international HUB :( Post from HK comes through London and maybe its because of the good old days of the commonwealth but they dont really seem to be as thorough on customs.

Also the Japanese are honest, and wont mark (gift) on the package etc

Mines the same as yours, arrived yesterday (6.30) passed to customs and at 10am this morning was dispatched to the local post office.. So I will either get a letter tomorrow with the customs cost or a nice parcel..

just finished my build. Took a bit longer than I anticipated. Not as easy as building a B4.

tamiya skimped on plastic shock bushings and plastic crush tubes. Cant imagine the plastic crush tube doing much !

The plastic throughout the car looks cheap, however I'm sure its still a strong car

pete2222
23-06-2010, 07:29 PM
So whats the opinion on how this compares to a B4. Looks really similar to me, but with cheaper looking plastics as mentioned. Any idea if it's likely to be as durable as a B4?

B44&501xRacerEX
23-06-2010, 07:35 PM
People on rctech have posted and raced them Canadians,
some guy named Joel. He said the car is extremely durable out of the box.
The tamiya plastic in thier trf machines isnt cheap looking either.
3 or 4 people in his class ran the car and they all made the A-Main
or A-Final to the oople guys. I just dont know if he ran stock class or modified class. :/
They ran them 2 weeks in a row and only one person broke the car. And it was a tranny gear
not A-arms breaking...Im thinking it was a build error, not the car itself.
the only way to blow out a transmission is not lubing it properly with grease.

c0sie
23-06-2010, 07:38 PM
And then one of them blew up an idler gear didnt they?

B44&501xRacerEX
23-06-2010, 07:51 PM
I dont know what gear he said went out...
Unless his slipper was so tight that there was no slippage, then
your tranny would fail. Or no grease on the gears...
Joel did say that the tranny is very smooth, and it doesnt sound like a B4
or Losi buggy on the track. Super Quiet..

I should have pics up today or tommorow of my car...

DCM
23-06-2010, 07:56 PM
it is unusual for a transmission gear to go, a tight slipper won't do that either.

DaveG28
23-06-2010, 11:02 PM
The top gear is held on by a pin which in turn is held on by an oring. I guess if the oring wasn't sat correctly or failed thd pin would drop and destroy the idler?

Kinda makes me wish I'd double checked mind before sealing up the gearbox..

Fredrik Emilsson

Or a 501x. But a plastic car makes sense in 2wd. Carbon fiber
woulds be better but tamiya was thinking budget in mind,
Carbon would jack up the price to $500 and I dont feel like
spending that much on a 2wd. $329 at the hobby shop is reasonable.
That's only $50 more than a FT B4.
I will say the B4 is a good car, but you want something with higher quality you always have to pay more $$$.
I cant beileve the insanity of the durango at the launch of that car. $630 you have to be kidding me.
That's like $80+ more than a top of the line trf kit. Which I know a durango isnt as good as the trf's.
Diff failures were apparent, parts missing in the kits...just craziness. Every tamiya kit ive always bought
just like the AE kits had every part plus some extra screws etc...

is there much difference between the downforce in the 2 wings in the set?

I tried to put a B4 wing on, however its not on correctly as it hits the gear cover and makes the wing high on one side.

So I gather I will need to stock up on 201 wings

Set includes Rounded/Wide and Straight/Narrow type rear wings. (1 each.)
Adjustable down force cut line implemented.

:bored: It's not that much...
I saw an NIB Asute and SEALED dyna storm on ebay today...

Alot of Vintage guys are upset that Tamiya made a new car.
But I would think it would saturate the vintage market not hurt it.

The Dyna and Astute would defintly get beat by this newer car.
I like the carbon fiber and bling bling the Dyna and Astute have,
but plastic is the way to go in 2wd. #1 parts will be cheap if you
break something. #2 parts will be aplenty because it uses
the same parts a DB01 and 501x uses. #3 Tamiya wont stop
making parts for the DB01 and 501x due to this car coming out.;)

Enough talk and babble, Im dying to see my car this week.
But I wont be able to build it for a month because it will be
on lay-a-way...

I replaced the stock ball connectors used in steering linkage and on caster blocks.
On the caster blocks I use screw + ball nut instead. Same as on the rear hubs.
On steering linkage and uprights I use #53969 steel ball connectors.

Those of you who have a 501X or 511 know how good those stock ball connectors are...

Some pics of my TRF201. First time I tried liquid mask.
Wife thinks it looks a bit boring. She´s probably right.

Took my car for her first run, Only running a silver can so the chassis wasn't exactly pushed anywhere near its limits but I was well impressed with the pure ease of driving it, and how stable it was.

I'll have to get her to a club meet before I can work out what gearing I'm going to run and to see how competitive it is against the lads and their B4's. (Bearing in mind that drivers win races, not cars)

Anyhow, a one minute vid taken at my personal track. Its not flash but it does me fine.
