My mate fished an old BMX out of the canal a few years ago - it was a wreck of course apart from the proper magnesium wheels which were awesome!! he fixed up his old raleigh and rode it for ages with me on my mongoose, it was just like bmx bandits! |

I wanted one of these:
But ended up with one of these: Needless to say it was shit over the jumps....but you could set fire to the wheels pretty well and ride around. There wasn't much to do on Ynys Mon.

Raleigh Extra Burner I had one of these, but mine had regular spoked wheels rather than Skyway's. A mate had the Super Tuff Burner with black Skyway's and I was always jealous. The Aero Pro was just a dream...

This is pretty much exactly the bike I had in the 80's. Mine had blue Skyways and shimano DX pedals and the bars were not quite so far forward! A mate of mine had a Night Burner with red mag wheels then one of my other mates bought a GT Pro Performer world tour edition. I was unbelievably jealous. Liverpool had a great BMX scene in the 80's down at Rathbone skate park. A real shame it is in ruins now . |

Funny how that bit of foam over the handlebar adjuster block did f**k all to protect your nads!
I seem to remember a lot of excrutiating stomach pain in my BMX years.

finally got round to putting some new cables on my kona at the weekend - went out on it with the wheels donated from a mate and it was a right nightmare!
The rims are ceramic but half of it's worn off - so the brakes grab like a mad thing randomly! anyone any idea what I should do ? take off the rest of the ceramic with some sand paper, get some special ceramic vbrake pads, dump the rims and get new ones on the (hope) hubs, or ......? |

I'd just bin the rims Jim. I've seen them wear through real quick when the ceramic has gone.
Has it chipped off or worn away? Cant go wrong with the Hope hubs, if you wanted new wheels i'd only advise the Hope Hoops anyway. Those 46's are tasty Rich! i nearly bought one but felt it was a bit to light for me (!?!) as the nose kept coming up when i got hard on the gas... what CK bits you gettin? the hope/thomson/carbon juicy bits not bling enough

coating has worn off in places I thought they'd be OK just like when the crappy anodising wears off some 'normal' rims. but I guess not, because it grabs like a mother chuffer and trys to throw me off the bike. I'd not want to ride the brake on a loose descent.
I guess when I start adding in some new rims and build costs it's geting a bit silly. |

Merlin are doing the 721's for £36 and i dont think their build costs are that much Jim. Always good wheels from them. Or have a go yaself!!!

Just seen your reply - cheers mate Yes, it is a bit light at the front i have noticed that too. Im new to MTBing, did a bit of reading and liked the look of it so went for it I fitted the Thomson seat post already to match the stem. Ive ordered a CK front hub with 20mm axle - anodized pink , will soon order the matching rear hub and no threadset headset too. Had the pi ss ripped out of me by my biking mates as im a total MTB noob. I like garage jewelry see ! What MTB is it in your first thread ? Looks tasty and purposeful. |
