Big Bores - leaking
Read through a couple of threads on this as i have one rear shock that is leaking slightly, losing 1/3 of its contents on a half dayer.
Its a pain and i would like to fix it, however what do i need to stand the best chance of sorting this once and for all ?? One of the team drivers mentioned some upgraded seals but i didn't make a note of it and i've now forgotten ! Seems its weeping the shock oil down the shaft onto the bottom cup. Kinda disappointed for £42 to be honest. |

You probably cut the seals on that shock. I found that putting the piston on the shaft and intalling it from the top was easier but sometimes the threads cut the seals.
I now pack the seals with alot of associated green slime and instal them through the bottom, haven't had a leak since.

These came pre-built i assume from the factory as a number of suppliers sell them.
So i basically need some of this green slime http://www.m-k-racing.com/product_in...1ba3d441a3cf4a And one of these, but just use the orange seals - is it worth replacing all the stock schumacher ones with these ?? http://www.m-k-racing.com/product_in...oducts_id=7911 Just using MK as an example |

Indeed, green slime will help but you really need other o-rings.
- Losi 1/8" ones (the standard red/orange ones) - Nortech Whities - The rings janus_77 has, he has a gazillion of them - Team Xtreme has some (expensive) When building the shocks and want to be sure you don't damage the seals when inserting the shock shaft, put some thick grease or tape over the threads. Or put the seals in some 100wt shock oil for a while, then apply green slime, let it rest for a few hours and then install the seals. But this may be a bit over the top |

The kit O rings are not the greatest, I built my SX3 last week and had 3 of my shocks leak. I got some whities off Graham North and problem solved.

The SV you had from me should have the Northy o rings in it too.

Hey Mike
Do you have any of these 'whities' left? I would like to get some but dont fancy paying £2.50 shipping. |

PM Northy on here, or just get 32 o rings - you'll need them with the SX2, SX3, TLR22 and Durango 410R you now have £2.50 vs leaking shocks, know what I'd have.. |

ok so i am rebuilding these shocks, rears done, slimed, new nortec whities and they seem ok.
Fronts are being done but one of the shock shafts seems to have a small nick in the metal. Its not massive but enough to rub away and cause a leak on the seals. Can i wet sand the shaft with 2000 wet and dry to make it smooth enough, i know i can shell out £10odd for new shafts too but i wanted to test some stuff tomorrow pm if poss. Got to say, as these shocks were bought built from Schuhmacher they are shocking (pardon the pun), do they not do any quality control ??? I would have stumped up the extra £20 and got the ansmanns if i knew these were this bad |

as long as its smooth it should be fine if i were you run it to do testing then put new rings and shaft as for qaulity control you should have paid less and built it your self im assuming you bought the pre built.
i bought the original sx pre built and you are spot on the build quality that comes out the factory is rubbish luckly i had enough time before my next race meeting to rebuild it. i will always buy in kit form my sx3 build qulity was excelent the shock o rings are not great but for a quick fix if you are waiting for good rings is the plastic guide that sits in the srew cap if you turn it round so the rib is on the inside rather than the outside it tightens up the outside o ring for a temp fix it works well alternative you could put some shims between the orings. stu Ps has anybody got a fab they want to sell. |

I was caught short time wise so yeah they were bought built from the factory (through supplier). In hindsight i should have got kits for sure but ho hum, you live and learn
