Hello all,
If I buy an MRT transponder, do I need a AMB one too, so that I can clone the number? Or, does the MRT transponder work on its own? Thanks, Chris.

No MRT work same as AMB.
Funny enough I have one for sale in FS section. ![]() |

While a MRT will work on its own, as it's loaded with several different numbers, the advantage of them if you already have a AMB (other than price) and own multiple cars is that you can send them an AMB and have MRTs cloned to the same exact number - and that way you don't have multiple transponder numbers to keep track of.

Thats what I did 3 years ago. Original one to MRT which they cloned and sent back to me along with two MRT ones. All three have the same number but I haven't used the AMB one since I sent it off. The MRT ones work flawlessly and until the new "harry" transponders came out they were the smallest PT's out there.

So if you were running, say 2wd and 4wd classes at the same meeting - would you want two transponders with the same number, one for each class?
could you use two different numbers? And could you have another MRT cloned to one of the numbers in an existing MRT?

You could use two different numbers if you want to but I just use the one. As long as you aren't running two PT's with the same number in the same race then there isn't a a problem.

What if there are more than 1 person in a heat with an MRT, and their numbers are the same, what happens? Thanks, Chris

I have 2 of these , one in 2wd one in 4wd both diffrent numbers , i was a little confused by these to start with but i have never had any issues with them clashing with any other transponder in around 2 years ( i do regionals, eos finals, worksop, clubdays so i do get around a bit so chance of clash is higher)
i think if you do clash you just press the button on the front to change to one of the other numbers. |

Interesting to know anyone has had a 'clash' problem with an MRT PT |

not a clash, but I bought a custom one (not cloned from an amb) and went to race at the ansmann gp (formerly ko gp) at west london a couple years back. The club had just bought a bunch of them to use for their handout/lend set and one of them had the same number as my custom one. Not a big problem as I bought it from them there and then

Actually as I understand it the 'Custom' ones have one 'unique' number and the same 20 numbers. Those 20 numbers correspond to handout transponders for AMB systems, so clubs like Ribble Valley actually use MRT PT's instead of handouts. I refer to the primary number as 'unique' because I don't really believe it is. MRT say they own a number of dead AMB transponders and these numbers come from them, but I'm pretty sure there are more custom MRT's out there than they own broken AMB's. That means there is a remote chance you might get a clash (hence the 20 numbers as well). If buying second hand, clashes are more likely. Lots of people running multiple classes run an AMB in one car, and a cloned MRT in the others. When they quit, and stuff gets sold it often ends up going to different people.

Absolutely. Never seen it myself either. Just saying its possible, whereas with a Mylaps/AMB it isn't.

I have been running mrt transponders for 3 years now.
I have had 2 set up to the same custom number that was first sent out when i ordered from mrt. So far i have not had to change to the other 20 numbers. I have raced at national level in Micro, and club level in 1/12th circuit and 1/8 Rallyx. They have never missed a lap and for the price are great little units. My friend borrowed one once for his 1/10th and we changed it to one 20 numbers for him and it was so easy to do. Plus the guy at mrt is more than willing to offer phone surport on his products. ![]()

I have been running mrt since they first started doing clones, never had a problem and would never go back to amb.
I'm sure there are 3 versions 1, cloned where you own the amber number and its cloned to an mrt, this number will not be offered to anyone else, also has in built 20 numbers. 2, custom with one fixed number and 20 options 3 one number and 10 options Number 2 and 3 are not unique numbers.
