ZX-5 SP 2008 setup help needed please
Hi all,
Did my 1st meeting at TORCH on Sunday 15/07 and enjoyed myself but found it very competitive as I guess anyone would on their 1st time at a new track. Can anyone suggest ways to improve the car for this track? I didn't seem to have enough steering through the twisty section before the back straight and towards the end of the day just couldn't get the rostrum jump section right. Eventually I gave up trying and just rolled over the 1st jump to stay safe which did actually work quite well as I finished the day without breaking anything! This car is not an FS2SP but the older SP 2008 (the last version Kyosho made with all the cells down one side before changing to the FS configuration). I'd love an FS2SP but I have a truckload of new spares for this car and the batteries I use in my 1/8th buggy fit, so I guess for the time being i'll be staying as I am. Currently my setup is: Front Shumacher green minispikes with std inserts (medium U6733) Shocks 30w oil, std pistons, yellow springs, top inner hole, bottom middle hole Ride height 18mm No sway bar (but I have 1.25mm and 1.6mm items) 7 degree caster blocks Inner top link ball on inner hole, no spacer Outer top link ball on outer hole, no spacer No spacers below inner/outer steering ball links Front diff installed (have never tried spool/one way) Rear Shumacher yellow minispikes with std inserts (medium U6734) Shocks 30w oil, std pistons, yellow springs, top middle hole, bottom inner hole Ride height 18mm No sway bar (but I have 1.25mm and 1.6mm items) Inner top link ball on inner hole, no spacer Outer top link ball on outer hole, 2mm spacer This is pretty much the kit standard setup for the car but the only other place i've really raced it is at South Coast RC where it's much more bumpy and the astro is a lot more grippy (it's like a thick pile carpet) so I think on Sunday I might just not have been pushing hard enough for fear of griproll, but it would be good to hear from anyone who can help. For example I noticed one A finalist using the 10 degree caster blocks on their FS2, do these generate more steering or less? Thanks! Last edited by HOTSHOT III; 19-07-2012 at 06:51 AM. did you try any other front tyres apart from Schu greens? I think that may be your main problem.

caster.
the more caster you got the less camber you give. this will give more straight line speed in pull away and then when you go into corner because you have caster the more you turn the more camber you get. it is like having progresive camber as and when you turn and need it. |

So do you think I should have had schumacher yellows on the front as well?

Yep. I ran Schu yellows all day as it was all i had, main choices would be Schu yellow mini spikes F and R when dry or Ballistic green mini spikes F and R when wet/damp (like sunday morning).

I'm also going to say tyres as a good place to start making changes. On my FS2 SP I ran BB greens until the finals, then moved the Schuey yellows as the grip had come up.

Might be worth looking here too Alex
http://www.petitrc.com/setup/kyosho/...azerZX5SP.html I run ballistic greens all round in wet and in dry I run yellow spikes on the rear with inner and outer row cut off. Up front I run 2wd yellow spikes with outer row cut off. Not fastest setup for a pro, but I find it nice and consistent Cheers Dave |

I use Answer RC foams, soft and medium depending on what I want, soft = more side bite and overall grip, firm - more forward bite. Available from Inside Line.
