Hi guys,
Sorry, I have been off for a while, but I am now 100% back on to the Lazer. I pulled some strings and was able to get back to my University's engineering department to do some destructive testing on the Lazer to test out my front and rear gear box. The two tests that I have done are simluation of the Lazer travelling at 50km/h and experiencing crashes. Contacting point of test #1 is the at a point 1/4" inch below the top of the front shock tower. Result, there is no damage to the front gear box, but I need a new front shock tower. Contacting point of test #2 is again at the 1/4" inch below the rear shock tower. Result, rear gear box is intact with no damage, but I also need a new rear shock tower. In conclusion, I believe the front & rear gear boxes and also the upper deck mounts are ready. As stated before prices are below (I understand it's costly, but that's the best I can do): Front gear Box (4 anodized aluminum, 2 CF pieces, 1 anodized aluminum sheet cover): $140 Upper Deck Mount (1 anodized rearupper deck mount, 4 middle upper deck mount posts): $90 Rear gear box (1 anodized aluminum base, 4 anodized aluminum cross bar, 4 spacers, 1 anodized aluminum reartower mount, 1 anodized belt tension bearing holder, 2 CF side plates, 1 CF belt tensioner): $160 Motorplate (1 anodized aluminum motorplate with heat sink): $75 Blue Belt: $25/set Shipping cost from supplier to me will be distributed amongs the orders. PM me if you are interested. I will take front & rear gear box, upper deck mount, motorplate orders until Sept 14 because of the expensive shipping fee that my supplier charges me and not know if I when I will make another order. As for belts, I stocked them.

As a side note, as Welshy had experienced. The difficulty for assembling the front gear box is EXPERT. It requires patience inorder assemble it together because of it's tight tolerances. But once its assembled, it is a very tough front gear box.

On Oosh123's design he has moved the slipper metal plates much closer to the motor plate so believe there is enough room to fit the new VTS slipper clutch into the current gear cover, which as comments have stated means you can get more of a smoother drive as well as a longer life span on the slipper pads so you can have it slipping more without the worry of them burning out. I just want to test it to see what a difference it makes, plus this kindof puts a whole new perspective on things as not many cars are currently using this at the moment. Good idea, I will get my video camera out and will make sure some videos are taken for this test. Ive also decided to try associated shocks and will see if I can get a resonable set up with more height in practice, if not back to the Traxxas shocks where the car hits the deck. I am testing this design on Friday and will update on my findings.

Ok, well last night i built the car totally and added a CF motor plate and also the VTS slipper conversion and the gear cover fits with a mm to spare, so a tight fit but none the less its there and looks superb, just hope it does what everyone has said.
Also ive CF the front two pivot blocks as my alloy ones broke so am unsure if it will be perfect tonight. Pics to follow

You mean that your little bird has left it's safe nest and is now trying out her wings amongst the fauna of vintage friends and foes? I believe she will make it, maybe we have a new queen!

Can you please make an exploded view on how the slipper clutch is assembled? We just need the conversion set right? is there anything we need to mod before fitting it in?

Looks awesome Welshy, even though it's not fully assembled in the pics. That whole rear gearbox looks like sex lol.
How come you've decided to move from the finned motorplate to a CF one, just needed a bit more carbon fiber? Seriously amazing work from everyone involved, I keep looking on ebay for a good donor car but I keep forgetting to bid and missing the end, doh! |

Nope. The vts you have to have a b4 slipper plate on the layshaft, then you put my design 100t b4 design spur gear from RW with one slipper pad on so it sits against the b4 slipper plate. Then the plastic vts cup sits into the hex on the front of the spur, in that a slipper pad sits at the bottom of the cup then an alloy plate and another pad and slipper plate that fits ontop of the pads in the cup and then the spring and in my case thrustvrace and nut. Its superb and much nicer to use

Welshy have you got a pic of the CF bumper from Oosh?

It really sucks that these bumpers aren't made more affordable to those of us wanting a couple. I understand there are costs involved in producing such items but I can only imagine that the asking price for these repro bumpers heavily reflect how rare and expensive the original items sell for.
