Default TM2 Rear CVD pin Wearing out

Hi, I have converted my TM4 to the new hardened diffs, out drives and CVD prop shafts.

The problem I am having is that the rear CVD steel pin is wearing through the aluminium coupling at an alarming rate.

I have broken three so far.

Is there any steel couplings available or is anyone else having the same trouble?

Mb models yeah 2 by 10mm pins, most others are only 9.8 mm so add wear, fit the yeah pins and it takes out the slop plus keep well greased.
Hope this helps.

Do you have a link to the pins from Mb?

Hi!

It's critical that this part is kept clean and greased. I made the mistake of ignoring this to start with and they wore very quickly (especially on high grip). Mine are now lasting ages.

I use some white spray grease on mine and they seem to be holding up ok, it's probably not the best grease for the job but it's easy to just squirt a little in there every other round so it doesn't dry out.

Are there any plans to upgrade this part to prevent such rapid deterioration? The alloy used on this part must be the softest out there.

Hi, whilst I will follow the advice from Kev I agree with Chris that having a major part of the drivetrain made out of ally is not the answer.

A steel upgrade for the upgrade needs designing.

The centre diff kits come with the steel outdrives instead of aluminium ones for the front and rear cvd's

I think you have the wrong out drives in mind. It's the centre shafts that are suffering.

I believe AmiSMB was trying to say that the Centre diff kit centre driveshafts have steel couplings not the alloy of the slipper variants.
The word out drives may have confused.

See my picture below - notice how the couplers are black not the gold color.
Magnets attract them too indicating steel.

I heard the factory was thinking about making these available individually at some stage.

Ah, ok, so they do exist in steel! Excellent!

Mr Springer, these need to be made available to the team ASAP!
