KF, KR, now a KM
Had some spare time so i made up a Schumacher KF from an sv2 front end and an sx3 rear end. I drew up the chassis from the KF side pods, sx3 rear and sv2 front and milled a carbon fibre chassis. It ran well and i thought it seems a shame to have the sx3 sitting there with no rear end, so i redesigned the chassis and milled a new one for the sv2 rear end and made a new top plate.
So now i have the new KM. Longer chassis than the sv and sv2 which gives you the kf spec chassis with a ball diff and mid motor position, and balances the car towards the rear for more grip. Here's some pics |

Had a chance to run the KM on grass last Monday, and it ran exceptionally well, stable and had plenty of grip. Let a few guys have a go and all were impressed by the new chassis.

Hi,
I like your work, its very good. you said it was the rear end of an SX3 but looking at the pics it looks like the rear end of an sv or sv2? if it is an SX3 how have you managed to shorten the belt drive? If it is the rear end of an SV then surly its just an old SV with mod chassis which was an extra 8mm longer? |

hi Madmulc, originally i made a kf using the rear of an sx3.
This one is as you say a sv/sv2 rear end and a new chassis to make it longer and slimmer. It uses the kf body and sideframes so it looks like the kf with the benefits of a mid motor setup. |

well it's a few months down the line and the KM chassis has performed flawlessly, and a new set of vertical top decks have been tested with great results. I have this setup on two cars, one running on carpet and the other running on a combination of mainly grass tracks and the occasional astro track. Both cars are great to drive, and running in the wrca i got up to 12th place only to drop down to 15th on the last meet which i failed to attend. Not bad for half a years racing after a 30 year absence, definitely the KM rather than me

well i've come from on road touring car into the buggy scene, started with a hobao for 1 meeting, that got sold and i bought me an SV. ran that for a good few meetings and was placing decently in my local clubs with it, was speaking to RDR at some of the meetings and well, i now have a KM conversion chassis, been running this chassis 2 times a week for the past 2 months and it has to be said, the thing is a flyer, one of the easiest buggies to drive that i've got my hands on.
i have been running it mainly on indoor carpet due to getting the chassis at the close of the out door series, its so much smoother than a sv on carpet it just seems to glide from corner to corner where the sv was like an angry animal fighting you from corner to corner, ive got it running quite stiff with nearly the exact same setup that i was using on the SV. I'm really enjoying the chassis and have found im alot faster with it, due to it being such a easy to drive car now you can just point it at apex to apex, extremely consistent car. Been able to keep up with a good amount of 4wd cars on tight and also fast tracks, also had a few comments of how it seems to be able to keep biting at the heels of the 4wd lap for lap. to be fair, i haven't got a bad thing to say about it, every part of it drives better than a sv and sv2 along with giving me a really positive drive with the feeling of not reaching the skill limit, still feel like its got more to give with more track time with it Last edited by jamie5974; 03-11-2014 at 03:51 PM. |

another good showing for the km Friday, finished 4th in the A final in caldicot, missing out on 3rd by 0.04.. couldn't have been much closer over the line.
Sunday was a day of testing new set ups, feel like im starting to get more out of the chassis, even though it wasn't as good showing in the finals it was nice to start playing with setup and get a feel for the car from more angles. roll on next week |

hi there, at the moment im testing with rather thick oils and i have finally started to come down the a softer weight to see how it goes, i was using around 750cst up front and i would like to say 550 in the rear, found the car had a good feel to it. but you will get comments in the pit lane about how stiff it is set up aha! alot of drivers are using kit springs and the stock oil as a starting point |

I've made a few improvements to the original chassis, a delta shaped rear end to improve the strength and a few other tweaks.
On the cards is a new design chassis/monocoque that will remove a few of the cougar weaknesses and make the car unique. |

Hi rdr,
Is the carbon fibre top deck on the KM a standard part or a one off? |

Due to the extra length of the KM chassis, it is made for the chassis.
