Default lipo case unglued

What is an ok glue to use on a lipo if the case comes unglued? Is just super glue ok?

I don't think it's due to swelling, although it definitely has a slight bulge!?

Is this on a pack of Nosrams as I have had the case come apart after this weekends racing at Silverstone.. LIPO is fine, just the red casing has come away. It's held together with tape now.

For January I'm prob going to get two of the following
Speed Passion
Vampire Racing
Epic
??? recommendation.

Superglue does glue most plastic...so would probably glue that ok I would guess.

I'd be tempted to use something that's not thin like tyre glue though so that it doesn't flow inside the lipo case and glue everything it finds!!!

Mikey, I've had vampires in my B44 for over a year now with no noticable degredation in performance...will chuffed with them. Now got one in my X6 as well. Lovely

Both my LRP 5300's have come open. Problem is its the case that holds the conection tubes. Ive taped mine up for now but I'd rather glue them. All my LRP packs have swelled under normal use and 1c charge rate . Not had any problem with my 4 year old Orion pack or cheap core 5000's.

Haha I did use the brush glue too!

I'll just have to be careful how I set my battery posts as I now have the one cell 0.2mm thicker than the others! Teaches me for buying abroad, if I bought in the uk I could send it back!

One question for everyone, have you ever measured the size of your cells versus what it says they are on the brca list?

Mine are a full mm out in terms of height, bit of a problem!

Presumably all these LRP's that have split are no longer BRCA legal?

Sounds like you've swolen them some how Dave! They do swell, and it can end up being a problem. Ultimately a swolen cell isn't a happy one!

This is kinda strange, but both my LRP 5300s had this problem as well, the casing starting to come apart after one or 2 wkends of racing.

But after careful checking, I think it is because the battery is not held down securely enough by the battery strap.

Is this the same on your car? Does the battery have alot of free play in its compartment? If so, the offroad jumps can jolt the casing quite a bit.

They are brand new, and have never been in a car, all they have had is one charge at 1C, then discharged (on a charger) down to 3.85v per cell, god knows how I could have swollen them doing that!?

Could be good money after bad, but I have ordered one more pack, which I will measure before charging at all, to see what's what....

Not happy!

By the way, all 4 cells (2 packs) are exactly the same dimension as each other now, would they all swell to the exact same size like that if it was swelling? I'm just wondering if the issue is just that the cases are too small..??

Have you calibrated your charger yet?...

Maybe it's the callipers

So if it turns out they are a little swollen do they just need binning, or might they now settle down and work fine?

Hmm, no idea what to do, got the 3rd pack today, measurements are:

BRCA list: 137.3x46.2x22.8mm
Charged once cells: 137.3x46.2x23.9mm (case edge 23.2mm)
Brand new cells: 137.3x46.2x23.5mm (case edge 23.0mm)

So there definitely seems a little swelling after a cycle, and they arrive already bigger than spec

Can anyone confident with lipo's tell me if that amount of swelling is "reasonable"? Would you run them or chuck them, or is it worth trying to return them although obviously the shop can't know for sure I haven't abused them somehow?

i'd return them dave, obviosly email them first and explain. If they are on the list, i would have thought that the new one should be within the measurements. wierd.

Not good that they are bigger than the brca list reports them to be, but possible that the size is marginally different now to when the brca measured them.

There is always some tolerance to manufacturing, especially plastics! However that's 0.7mm difference to the brca measured size, which over that size is surprising.

As for swelling...it appears to have grown by 0.4mm in 1 direction only which is not a lot, and although I don't know sure as I'm no lipo expert, I would guess at it being entirely possible that the cells inside change in size subtly during a cycle quite naturally.

Since you've not abused them in any way I'd say you have real need to worry about using them...but I guess it can't hurt to raise the issue with the manufacturer and see what they say?!?!

Ooh, mine aren't lrp, I'm not saying which brand until I know whether it is a problem or not!!

I know 0.4mm isn't much, but I don't know how much swelling can occur in the actual cell before it hits the case, and how much pressure is required in the cell to actual bend the hard case that much!

I've contacted the distributor and shop, and when I get on a pc with flash will also go direct to manufacturer!
