Default New racer in town

Hi all,

I'm dusting off the cobwebs and racing for the first time in 20 odd years in a couple of weeks time. Can someone clarify what time it starts, what time you have to register by, and whether a transponder is needed, or do the club provide them?

Steve

Hi Steve
I usually get there for around 8.15 there is then open practice and booking in. Racing usually starts at 10.00. We use personal transponders. You can borrow one from the club for the day.

Booking in closes anywhere from 9am to half past, get there before 9 to be sure you get booked in.

Thanks for this. Can I just clarify the situation with transponders? I'm planning on using a handout as I figured there is no point in buying one at the moment as there are only a couple of meets left this season.

Will I need to bring anything with me to enable me to attach the transponder to the buggy, or do I get everything I need?

You will need a spare channel or batt socket on your receiver to plug it in, and a small piece of velcro to attach it inside your car chassis.

If your gonna stick at it..always worth getting your own PT obviously. Tivvy's outdoor season is ending, but WORM just up the road run all year...including through the winter!

One thing to bear in mind though...Tivvy have upgraded to the newest RC4 decoder, whereas WORM are still running the older RC2 type, and have no immediate plans to change, so you'd need an older AMB type transponder to allow you to work at both (and other) clubs if you decide to go further afield for your racing!
