18T center pulley + 369mm drive belts etc..
Hi,
Could somebody give some update on these upgrades?? Maybe somebody who uses them can give his input? Are they any better than the kit set up? I stripped a NEW belt yesterday at a meeting after 3 runs??? Is it possible to use stronger belts than the Tamiya ones? What do you need if you use the one way? Thanks in advance! |

Dave was using the green belts of the Losi XX4 yesterday, he said they were more than OK, maybe you can try them? (btw I'm potloodslijper).

Now, back to an English conversation, it isn't a Dutch forum after all |

I'll be replacing my OEM belt system very soon with the new option parts. I have had some crunchy/slipping belt noises but have loosened the slipper a little bit to reduce the noise/tension on the drivetrain. It has helped reduce the noise some but I look forward to trying the new parts. Will report back when this all happens...

I don't know precise which belt it is, but it came of a Losi XX4 WE, so maybe you could check this page: http://www.losipartshouse.com/servle...rts/Categories

So does the buggy still have a front overdrive with the hop up pulleys centre and front. Other than the 2 pulleys and the 369mm belt, anything else needs to be hopped up?

No, both front and rear pulleys will be the same number of teeth (37).
The parts you will need are Tamiya numbers 53987 x 2 (369mm belt), 53988 x 2 (37T pulley) and 53989 x 1 (18T center pulley... has 2 per package).

I heard that front overdrive makes the buggy/car easier to control. Is that true?
So if i hop up the pulleys, will it be harder to control? Other than control issues, would it reduce the strain on my brushless motor? |

I have done the large pulley conversion and have front overdrive. I have a 37t pulley on the rear and a 36t pulley on my one-way at the front - I think this is how it should be done (if I read the instructions correctly!).
In addition to the centre 18t pulleys and I had to buy the 37t rear pulley (TRF415?) and 36t front one-way pulley (TA05?) and there is also a new adaptor from tamiya to centralise the TA05 one-way pulley on the 501x one-way diff. |

Jon you are correct that is the correct Tamiya method for upgrade using the 36T pully on the front and 37t on the rear.

The last time I saw him he was still using it, and I'm sure he didn't buy a new one, as he got it from another driver. He also had plenty of time to buy a new belt, but apparently he didn't change it.

Mine currently touch the belts right now and I believe the bearings did touch the belts with the original 16T center pulleys and original, non-adjustable tensioners.
