Default Brushed motor question

Morning all,

Which is the faster and most powerful motor out of these two?

HPI Saturn 20T

Tamiya GT Tuned

It's to go in a Tamiya M05

I think the Tamiya GT Tuned is a 25t motor so that would be slower than the 20t saturn.

That's what I first thought but the saturn is seen as comparable to a sport tuned 23t and the GT tuned has slightly higher rpm than the sport tuned and loads more torque according to the fusion hobbies website. They list the GT Tuned as 19,000 rpm at best efficiency but tower hobbies say 19,000 rpm with no load.

Apologies if you think I've answered my own question but there is so much conflicting information out there from different online stores and Tamiya for some reason don't list the motor specs on their website.

I suppose I'm asking what the difference is between RPM at maximum efficiency and RPM at no load.

I begrudge paying £20 for a sealed motor when the one with replacable brushes is on £5 more

A bit of searching I found this. Its no comaparable with the tamiya motor but results can help you decide. As he says low power drain built in fan so no need for heat sinks = less wieght. You can get a saturn from £13 on ebay so its a lot cheaper.

I thought I'd update anyone who was interested in this thread.

I bought the GT tuned motor and my brother went for the sport tuned.

I compared the two motors back to back in the same chassis and here are my findings.

The GT tuned has much faster acceleration. It reaches top speed half way down the straight, the sport tuned reaches top speed just before the end of the straight.

The GT tuned beats the sport tuned on top speed, I'd guess by at least 10%.

Two other guys were racing saturn 20t motors. The GT tuned is smoother with better acceleration and a higher top speed.

Compared to 15t firebolt, the GT tuned accelerated much much quicker. But I think the firebolt have been over geared.

Everyone was using the 20 tooth pinion.
