Default SC10 gearing

Hi guys,
I got a castle sidewinder sct and 3800kv motor for my SC10 and am having trouble with the gearing. The gear chart calls for a 14-18t pinion on an 87t spur, so I naturaly went for a 16t, all the guys at the club reckon this was way to small and I was lacking top speed massively, temps are about 74-76 Fahrenheit with this set up, What gearing do you recommend?

Any help is appreciated.

I've been struggling to get the temperatures down on my 4000kv motor but I'm using 32dp gears. I started on 15t but i've used a 14t and a 17t as well. It was really hot on the 17t.
If you are using 48dp then I'd guess a 14t is to small.
I am going to test the 14t again after experimenting with the 17t this evening and nearly burning my fingers!
Unfortunately I stuck the whole car in a puddle and it's been running slow since then.
I'm hoping I haven't fried it.
The ESC and motor are in a Tupperware box with a silica pack the size of a crisp packet.
Fingers crossed.

easiest way is to find out is to start at the highest of the chart and run for 5 mins then check temps and go from there, in my blitz i run 83/24

I, unfortunately, only have 3 pinions. They are 32dp with a 5mm bore and about 6 pounds each so I want to get it right with out wasting money on expensive pinions.
I don't think 48dp spurs would like the power of a 4 pole motor.

What turn/kv motor do you have in your Blitz?

gm 10.5 and with your bigger 550 motor you always run smaller pinions, a 24 would melt your chassis

What truck are you running?

are you running timing advance/boost?

what size is the spur?

It's an SC10 4x4. I have no timing or boost on the ESC and it's the 60t 32dp spur that comes with the truck.
Using a Tenshock SC411 motor and 120a hobbywing speedo which doesn't seem to struggle in the slightest.

Default gearing

Best thing to do would be to borrow pinions where possible to get your gearing right 1st then buy. But different circuits require different gearing so you will need a few pinions minimum. I would recommend investing in a device to read your motor temperature. Gear for around 130 deg F MAX after 5 minutes running.

I don't race it unfortunately, I'm a LONG way from a track that races 4x4 SC10's. I put it round our buggy track for fun against my 2wd truck with friends.
I've put the 14t on with a heat sink and fan, I'll keep an eye on temperatures, someone in the club has a gauge so I'll see if he can test it.
Cheers
