501x Screw Stripping Blues
I cannot beleive 2 screws holding the front diff assembly in place stripped. I thread locked them with blue threadlocker.
Please for goodness sake, dont use any kind of threadlocker on this car. And when you build the diffs, you better have that spacer and spring in there or else your pulley will go bye bye in a hurry... Now to remove them screws I have to take a dremel's cutting disc and remove the two screws with a flathead screwdriver... Stupid stock screws get on my freekin nerves.

If you don't use threadlock on this car, I wil fall apart during a single run ! You MUST use threadlock but not the blue one. I use Loctite 222 (the pink one).

Have you got the right size tools? Or were you trying to take them out with a philips screwdriver?

The 501X screws have a very shallow hex - and combined with the way they 'lock' against the carbon when you first use them, they can strip pretty easily. I'd use grease on the countersunk chassis and tamiya threadlock on the screw.

I got those peskey screws out last night.
Now I just have to get to installing that front one-way durga pulley. I have been running my other car at the moment though, since the other cars parts are easier to get.

Before buying my 501X I read through Jimmy's review a couple of times. Still the best purchase Ive made to date buying the 501X. I wanted to prove the point that the original screw kit would be good enough to use. I put grease on the countersunk heads before screwing them to the chassis, used the correct threadlock and the proper tools for the job. On my first rebuild I could not get about half a dozen of the screws out with the hex stripping like it were made of cheese. Even if the fitting wasn't so shallow the metal the screws are made from is crap. Ive had to slot a hole in many of them now and remove with a flat head screwdriver and some luck. DOH! Ever since then I replaced them all with some quality fixings and keep the original screws for my plastic vintage cars. My advise-DONT USE THE DAMN ORIGINAL SCREWS-THEY SUCK.

haha yes, they do. The best ones I've used are the tonys screws ones - really good. I've got a cheap load of titanium screws on one of my cars - the other is standard screws at the moment, but I will get a kit from Tony.

I ordered a load of replacement stainless steel screws for the main ones. Any ones I could I replaced with oversized button heads so most of the car goes together with 3mm heads to get really good grip. Only the bottom uses 2mm.
Sure they are heavier but I havnt stripped or threaded one yet. |

itself. They come out pretty easy in the B44 chassis. But a pain to get out of the 501x, and then you have to dremel a slot in the head to remove the screws with a flat-head screw driver....a sure pain. They are easily removed in the B44. What about Rc Screws are they any good also?

BMag, what is the best screw you have ever had? Was it a long hard screw? Or a short soft screw? Or just a quick short screw?

BMag, if you're referring to RC SCREWZZZZ then no, I got a kit a while back and they were crap. They were stainless tho - so if they do non-stainless (black steel) sets they might be good, but their stainless stuff was no good for me. Like using cheeze to put your car together, but not as good.

I fixed my 501x "WCE" Jimmy it comes with extra screws, thank god. I have replaced basically all the stripped ones, only 2 on the front on that aluminum thingy behind the shock tower. You know the one where you have to have 4 blue washers on the bottom then screw it down.
