Question Building new Mi4cx.

Hi. I am just about to get in to racing. I am fairly new to this (not a newbie just modest). I have a mi4cx chassis and was wondering what electronics to include to compete in 13.5t class? I have about £200-250 to spend on esc, motor, servo. There are too many options to chose from!( good options..., I wish I could chuck more than one motor in there) And it seams like the more people you ask the more opinion you get. I am trying to narrow down my choices.. I do have an idea what to get but want to hear more people. Planning to run indoors as well as outdoors. Don't ask about my set up yet as it is all in the process and will be rigorously tried and tested... Thank you in advance!!! Ps. If your set up gets to be in my car I will put your name on the body as: "engineered by ***** "

13.5 Blinky or boosted? Blinky is a lot easier to put together for that price.

Servo is easy. Futaba 9551 or BLS551 low profile (S9451 or BLS451 if you can fit a standard one). NOT a Savox - I'm sure you will get a lot of recommendations for them, but they cause problems due to their heavy current draw. There are a lot of mid-priced servos around which, to be honest, haven't stood the test of time. I'd rather leave a Futaba S3003 in the car than spend £30 to £50 on something that will cause troubles.

Motor is quite easy - BRCA legal motors that I have seen to be quick are the GM, Vampire, RevTech, Reedy Sonic (amongst others). Go for one with a 12.5mm rotor if possible. The only real dog I know of is the HPI Flux Pro - and that is because I made the mistake of buying one! It was only after a few frustrating races that I started to hear everyone elses stories of woe, and noticed that the HPI/HB team drivers DON'T use them...

For a Blinky ESC I would go for the Speed Passion Reventon Stock Club Race. 50 quid, needs a few settings changing before use, but once you have done that it is no nonsense. For boosted, the obvious budget choice is a Hobbywing Xtreme Stock or V2.1, but there are some issues with the brakes on those ESCs that may or may not frustrate you. Speed Passion Reventon R might be worth considering when the boost software is released for 13.5, as might the basic model of the LRP Flow when it arrives. Next step up in ESCs is £150 upwards, and you won't get a servo and motor as well within your budget.

Local support/advice is important (shop and track). Look at who is quick and copy them is rarely a bad place to start!
