Default Newbie advice needed please

I have a AE B4 rolling chassis which I brought a few years ago now which fully intended to race but didn't get round to finishing.

I'm looking at getting my lad into rc so thought of starting him off 1/10 electric,
Will this still be any good as a starter? If so What motor/esc/batteries am I looking for ? I have servos but not sure about the lipo thing (blowing them up ) lol
I have lipos for my 1/8th but I know 1/10th is different gravy

i have been out of the rc loop for a bit now and have mainly a 1/8th rally x background which I'm going back into
So any advice on 1/10th would be great

Cheers

what age is your son? the car is fine. just get a cheap 540 motor and some nimh batteries. this is how i did it with my 7 year old boy.
he has an ecx boost which is much simpler than your AE but the speed will be low enough to withstand the crashes and the tech is relatively safe enough for him to charge and connect the things himself.

i have myself a dex210 brushless machine that once he can handle the brushed version well enough i will let him drive instead

B4 is still good any many people will still stock cheep spares but not for very long as new b5 is out. but you could probs pick up a spare car for cheep.

A 540 silvercan motor would be fine and nimh would work. everybody uses lipo cells and brushless 6-13 turn motors but for a 7 year old it will be overpowerd.

My lad is 9 in the summer and I have a 7 yr old chomping at the bit to do it also lol,

So in terms of batteries are we looking at 3000mah?

Any recommendations on motors / esc too

I'm running 3 b4's at the minute two are brushless and one brushed. Two for the boys and one for me. Nimhs are the safer option for little hands connecting and disconnecting batteries. 3000mah are fine, esc and motor wise I had a tamiya esc laying around and bought a motor from modelsport for a fiver, plenty fast enough to start with. You could get something quicker and trim the end points down on the transmitter, this is what I've done for my eldest son, can slow it down for the track and open it up for bashing
