B44.2 rear diff screw

Hi all,

after some help, i've had a B44.2 for about 7 months and just had my 4th failure on the rear diff - the screw that goes through it shears off at the head - same thing 4 times in a row, no idea what is causing it and its getting a bit annoying. no warning when its going to go, doesnt follow a big jump or bad landing.

any suggestions what i could have wrong? built to the spec in the manual - fully tighten then undo a little bit.

I'd suggest your slipper is too tight and shocks to the transmission are going to the diff rather than being absorbed by the clutch.

Make sure the diff thrust bolt head is seated well home and not contacting with the cva, if you insert the cva into the outdrive and it touches the bolt head then its not right.
This sounds like its busting it off a jump but as you say its not the case, is the bolt head on right or left as you view it from rear ?

I've known people to have that problem, but not on your scale. You are doing something wrong. Rebuild the diff with new balls and plates, a new thrust race and bolt. Adjusted properly (ask someone if you are unsure) it should last several meetings without attention (rebuild when it feels gritty and course). Always replace the thrust race and bolt(they are only cheap) when you have used both sides of the plates.

Thanks guys. will check slipper and rebuild/regrease and see how long it lasts

Make sure you compress the spring for the thrust race too, this means the CVA is less likely to touch the screw too.
Also, check your slipper. Should slip for 2-3 feet at full bore start.
