After racing the Procat in the buggy heat at the short course nationals today. (I say raced more turned up and had a drive around slowly) I now want a newer buggy as the procats good but not good enough.
What would people suggest I'm not really botherd about 2 or 4wd as there's not much in it now days is there? I've got a sx3 but I'm wanting something maybe in kit form and is fairly easy to setup. Any suggestions welcome and I've not got the deepest pockets but don't mind spending a bit more for something decent.

What is raced at the local clubs?
If 2wd is common then you may want to buy something, if 4wd is common there is nothing wrong with the SX3 you already have. If you want to build a kit, take it apart and start again! Since you seem to like Schumachers then updating to the current cars would seem to make sense, the parts support is good and the cars go well. You can say the same about most of the cars on the market, there is so much choice and very few bad cars. |

We'll 2wd will be cheaper to get started, and you won't require as high end kit to compete.
You can probably pick up a centro c4.1/2 kit for not much, although a cougar sc2, Durango dex210, kyosho rb5 or something else 2nd hand will be fine. Stick with a competition kit, much more robust, and better spares backup too. 7.5 motor will be plenty. Hope this helps Mark

Thanks guys I think I'll just strip the sx3 and rebuild it and then see how it fairs before I make a decision

The last car i raced was a Procat and Bosscat back in the early 90's. I have been back racing since Christmas and went back in with a Schumacher KF, they seem spot on lots to tweak and change should you wish and great support from Schumacher. The only other car that took my fancy was the RB6 but Schumacher is local to me and well supported at my club.

I raced a dogfighter BITD and the sx3 was the first car I bought since getting back into RC's. I was thinking of selling it and buying a K1, but comparing them it seems the sx3 has more gearing options and parts are cheeper.
So if I get time after we move I'll see how it fares at a club night.

My advice would be same as people gave to me when I came back to rc approx 3-4 months ago - see what others at your club are using and probably go with that as you will be able to get advice, set ups and possibly emergency spares.
Unless you are wanting to be a trailblazer and go it alone, most modern cars are not hugely different in terms of performance (motor layout accepting) so a well set up slow car in hands of a quick driver will always beat a fast car, badly set up driven by a slower driver. Equally, if you have a local shop that favours a particular brand then you can ensure spares as well as supporting local trade

Agree with everyone else try to get something that other people at your track are running.
But you cant go far wrong with either the yokomo bmax 2 or bmax 4 III |

Hi Peakey
Your SX3 will be more than good enough. Just make sure it is well maintained, and everything is aligned and moves freely. If you fancy a change, a lot of SX3 components are carryover to the K1 (the suspension and corners), but the drivetrain is more simplified... so it should give you a feel for what your going to get from a K1. As others advise, ask at the club, make a note of the most popular car being run at the club, see what kind of support you can expect from team drivers at your local club, and then make a decision .... but give the SX3 a chance first, it's a good car. Most modern cars (incl SX3) are strong, reliable and competitive. Consider the availablilty of spares, and as mentioned above, the support available from fellow racers. I'm obviously going to advise the K1, but I genuinely think its the strongest, most reliable and easiest 4wd to drive that I've had.

Thanks Chris I'm in the process of giving the SX3 a good goon over and have ordered a few more bits for it today. So after it's all back together I'll put it through it's paces as well as I can and see how it goes.
Now I'm on the lookout for some new electrics as the stuff I had I'm going to leave in the Procat. I'm leaning towards a speed passion revension pro and 5.5t motor and a Futaba BLS451 how dose that sound to people?
