lipo disposal story
Thought I'd share my experience with you guys. I had a couple of 2s packs that were past their best, old demon packs with attached wires. They no longer balanced as the balanced wires had come away, and the power wire sheathing had split so a short was likely.
Anyway, I took them to my local tip (aka household waste recycling centre). When I asked one of the knuckle draggers where he wanted them upon explaining they were lithium cells., he asked me to hand them to him, which I duly did. He then simply chucked them into the iron/steel bin. Wtf? I'm pretty sure that's neither correct procedure or remotely sensible. Anyone else seen similar? I thought there was something in place when it came to these things.

If you discharge them by chucking them in a bucket of salt water then they're easy to dispose of.

Place i go now has a special bin for lithium batteries.
It's outside rather than next to the normal battery bin. Apparently one of the other places had a "little incident" last year with a mobile battery. |

They don't seem to care at all. A quick email to the local council should sort them out.
They used to do the same with Ni-Cd-who wants cadmium on their water table?! When i got rid of Ni-Cd, i used to double bag them to stop any leakage. Shortly after i queried our local council site, a specific battery bin appeared. Whether they just emptied that into landfill i guess we'll never know...

Sounds like it's worth a phone call before taking them to the local tip. Surely batteries have some residual value from the materials used in them?

Bin it fully charged and give then something to do when the scrap metal pierces the package.
