Default card cloning

I don't want to further hijack the cougar thread, so I thought I'd start a thread on the subject..

Last week my debit card was cloned for 30 pound for an O2 pre pay top up.

This has never happened to me before, and I started using the schumacher site to buy bits around 8 weeks ago.

So have othjers had this problem then?

Seems to be quite popular - but none of these people have bought from Schumacher.

My card was cloned last week too.. I haven't bought anything from Schumacher in months though.. I was blaming the petrol station on the way to work... They tried to top up a phone card with mine too. I really wouldn't expect it to be anything to do with Schumacher. The people in this the people in this industry seem to be the most honest I have ever come across

Well I have my new card now and will be very cautious.

My bank have a list of 3 companies from January and one from the one just gone as they say it was a card not present transaction

I think it's time for PayPal to lower their fees and people using it more. I shop more at MK for this reason now.

DMS it's over the phone and Schumacher it'll be over the phone now too (not saying anything wrong with them).

Maybe their is a new virus / key logger doing the rounds?

I'll have a look on some the usual security websites.

Seems to be a lot of O2 fraud on other forums, can he gurantee that it was Schumacher?

Having never ordered off Schumacher I can't 100% comment, but when you go through the process isn't there an SSL cert on the site?

If so, its either a key logger on your machine, or someone has got the details from the Schumacher DB (Very unlikely). I would go with petrol station over anything else

I work in retail, and card cloning is obviously an issue here. There is no way it can be pinpointed to a certain company, as the details are often obtained through the transaction process used at the bank/website.

Seems harsh to name any company (apart from petrol stations of course - robbing bastards!) linking them to card cloning on a public forum.

I think people are missunderstanding whats being said on here, no one is saying that schumacher is a dishonest company, for those of you so quick and eager to jump to there defence(prob after some kind of 'd' team driver backing or something) What is being said is that schumacher seems to be a common link in more than just a handfull of these claims and that maybe they need to review their internet security or their card details holding system, if they never know then they wont do anything so i have contacted them and my bank and hopefully now we can make this secure as im sure we would all agree its almost like a life line when you need parts fast, hope this can be sorted and faith in schumacher can be restored for all. ta That was not in any way aimed at you si your post appeared whilst i was mid rant ha ha .

Having an SSL cert means nothing, unless it's a trusted cert. Plus you can have a man in the middle attack. Aka when have a SSL proxy server that blows SSL apart to inspect it, put something like wireshark in there and you can see the data. We actively block self certs at work

I blocked a site the other week as when we looked at the traffic all the credential information was going out in clear text! Eeek

The other thing that I have arguments with people over - there is no such thing as secure email..

So I guess this cloning isnt limited to you guys on the other side of the atlantic. My acct was hacked after a purchase to schumacher last week for $784.21 USD.

I hope this is sorted soon, I've had three cards cloned after using Schumachers site, but until it happened to the last card I didn't really know where it was happening from.

It has to be an employee of Shumacher, mobile tops ups come on...

If it was a full on attack they would be wiping you accounts out.

You guys need to talk to the police ASAP.
