Question gearing advice

Excuse my basic question but I'm just back in business after 10+ years...

I've read here and there that correct ratio is very important for brushless motors. So I'm looking for good ratios for below cars/motors:

XXX-CR + Nosram 6.5 + LRP Sphere 2007 (currently using 18/86)
XXX-4G+ + Nosram 5.5 + LRP Sphere TC Specs (currently using 17/92)

How far am I from the truth?

Excellent ! Thanks a lot I'll look into this in detail.

Do you use to modify ratio depending of the track or do you simply change speedo settings/motor?
