Why a hole in the diff case?
Maybe a stupid question but this has disturbed me for a long time...When I look at the pics of the BJ4's rear diffcase, it's seems like it have a big hole between the two case halves?? If it is a hole there, why? For what reason? The diff can't hold for long if it comes dirt and sand in there
Please tell me why it looks like that. I'm just a bit curious why it looks like that

I think that's just the way it comes off the mould and not specifically designed to it? I may be wrong but thats the only reason i can see.. unless it has something to do with the tc3 which i doubt.

Yes this is the same as on the TC3 although its not as noticeable to be honest, because the roll bar holder is removed on the front of the BJ4 gearbox, which means this hole is more noticeable. You could fill/seal it with some heavy grease.

is it a magic smoke valve

I could be wrong, it has been known. But I thought it was part of the design to enable you to get a small flat screwdriver in to seperate the 2 halves.

possibly.. but i dont see why, as the two halfs come away very easily. in fact they fall apart when the 6 screws are removed.

I think it's part of where the moulding comes out, all my old tc3's were like this.
