I have been touring car driving for a few years - though I am a bit lousy at it
![]() Anyway - I fancied a shake up this year and to try 10th off road 2wd. Now I am posting a few questions before I commit to the plunge: My closest track is eden park raceway, so with that in mind: 1. what front tyre rear tyre combo works well there in the dry? 2. what kind of motor wind - I have - oddly either a 13.5 or a 4.5; 3. How long do a set of front and rear tyres last 4. What car should I buy - bear in mind I do have electrics Any help or guidance will be much appreciated |

Simple answer is go to the club mate. If you ask the people there what you have asked here then you will get your answers

I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I really would not of thought of that myself! My point is that I don't like taking time out to go down to observe alone - I would rather go down with the kit and have a go

1. - In the wet go for, Ballistic Green mini spikes or Schumacher Green minispikes. In the dry go for Schumacher Yellow minispikes. 2. - 13.5 will be a lil too low for off road, and the 4.5 is too mental for off road. best bet is something like a 7.5 ( or a 6.5 ![]() 3. - Usually a set a tyres will last a couple meetings but its good just a carry a few extras with you. 4. - Now this is the hard question, it all boils down to- "I have this car therefore its the best". I run a AE B4 and have done since I started racing, I really like it but every kit has it's downsides. Other people may have started out with ( for example ) a Schumacher Cougar SV, and they might have really liked it so they would recommend that. So its a very hard decision, You can usually pick up a B4 ft on oople for around £100 second hand with spares. Carl |

edit: beaten to it
![]() 4.5t is abit too hot for 2wd and 13.5 would be too slow I think 7.5t motor is a good sta rting point for 2wd,if you can handle it 6.5t, good kits out there at current: Xfactory X6 AE B4 Tamiya trf 201x Schumacher cougar sv Losi 22 when it comes out looks good! theres more kits out there too... just have a look at them and just take the plunge at which ever one takes your fancy they are all very capable cars how long a set of tyres will last depends on your driving style and the track although they should last you atleast 2 or 3 meetings. I usually kill 2 or 3 sets of rears by the time 1 set of fronts are badly worn schumacher yellow minispikes front and rear is the usual tyre choice in the dry or schumacher yellow stagger ribs upfront with minispikes on the rear

Going up to EPR is a very good plan tho - I went up there on my tod a while back to have a look and the folk up there were all v friendly and chatty
![]() Seems to be a good mix of b4's and schumachers up there, and not forgetting of course 2wd SCT ![]() Motor wise, was originally running a 9t up there, however was advised that a 10.5t may be better, a case of slower is faster - I certainly found it to be true. Check the EPR club section and have a look out for the work party or when peeps are going to be up there over the weekends - then pop up there and say hi.

I would wait for the new losi 22.
your 13.5 might still be ok if you have timing on your speed control |

It would be good to have more racers at EPR. There is a lot of advice on here that's very helpful. Ok, another thing to decide is how serious you want to take it, and how much do you want to spend, I don't mean money is no object. If you just wana have a play, then pick up something second hand, a B-4 is a great place to start. If you wana take it more serious, then a X-6 or Cougar would be your best bet in my opinion, but all three cars are competitive and would be well supported at EPR. The most important bit is come on down and race. If you wanted to borrow a car and see what you think about it I am sure there are plenty of us that could loan you something for the day. ![]() |

Car wise for a club racer the B4 is a good bet, ive seen schumacher cougars diffs fail regularly so would advise staying clear of them. If you want to spend more then the new Losi looks superb.

Don't over look a Kyosho RB5 ... almost built proof and near maintanance free.
It has plenty of steering without ever feeling "edgy" and has more rear end grip than you will know what to do with. A great car for the beginner in off-road and as fast as anything else out there. |

I would recommend the following:
Associated B4/B4.1 Losi 22 (Twenty Two) X Factory X6 Squared (Probably 2nd Hand) Kyosho RB5 These are all good 2wd cars to start out with! Hope this helps Mark

your best bet is to keep a look out on the eden park thread and see when the next work party is and take a trip down. the guys doing work on the track are well experienced in off road and have a wealth of knowledge plus run their cars round after the work is done. as said before a b4 is a very good starting car but if you want to spend a litlle more a cougar or x6. all three chassis are well supported at eden park wouldnt bother with a kyosho 2wd no one runs them.

I want to know if it's better to get a mid motor mounted car or a rear motor mounted car - I intend to do race local to me - Stotfold, Eden Park - which I believe are both astroturf

That's all down to your driving style imo.
If you like the back end to swing round into the corners (almost handbrake stylee) then a rear motor is perfect (although they can be smooth too), but a mid-motor is alot harder to do this with - they prefer it much smoother. Coming from touring cars you might be better suited to a mid more than rear...?

This may sound silly as I'm new to this sport but I bought a thunder tiger pheonix bx2 and it's a really easy buggy to use and drives really well. I used to have losi and cougars back in the early days and even though thunder tigers aren't as well known in the racing world there fairly cheap and umbrellas by team associated so spares aren't too hard to get hold of. But I'm one of those people that want to be different to get noticed
