Hey guys,
I'm starting a mad monkey build this weekend and in the instructions it says I need 'diff grease' and 'screwlock'... I don't have immediate access to a hobby shop, so was wondering if there is a substitute for each I can pick up from Robert Dyas or Homebase that would do? It's my first buggy build so I'm not too fussed if it's not the perfect grease or whatever. Also, the kit came with a small jar of what looks like vaseline. Could this be that it includes the grease I need but the instructions are wrong as I can't see this jar referenced in the instructions. Cheers, Riblau |

the jar is your diff grease yes, use plenty of it on the diff plates and balls, screwlock or threadlock should be available from any diy shop so no problem there, its only really needed on screws which go into metal parts though, make sure you use a very good quality allen key for the screws too as the do "round out" quite easily,

Also, both cars I built had the clear grease, and also the black grease for the thrust bearings. Will both not be needed for this build as well?

That jar is "diff grease". Use it on the ball differencial.
For the screws you can use Loctite or a similar product (but only in the ones that screw in metal). Is better to use a medium strenght or you could have a hard time if you need to unscrew the screws. |

PVA wood glue works well as thread lock.

Thanks everyone, really helpful! Fingers are killing from screwing all those Allen screws! Bought the ball race kit as I now understand what it replaces (the crappy copper coloured bushes!) so I might order some better grease when I put the new bearings in.
