Default 2WD ?

So we have the Phat's Chunk...and TamTech. What other 2wd choices are there? Do many people run custom rigs?

I've had a good old search around the tinternet and I'm not fining many options.

Is it worth considering a 2wd to run at time along with my 4wd?

Thanks

J

Most of the 2WD's in the 1/16th class are Phat Bodies Chunk's, however at UKMicroX 2011 Scott Dumayne entered with his extended Losi Mini-T and shocked quite a few people at how easily he seemed to be abl to keep up (and sometimes pass!) the bigger cars.

Tamtech is great if you want a giggle, but pants for competitive racing.

Your options are basically a Chunk, extended Mini-T, homebrew extended Thunder Tiger ZT2 (awesome cars) or make your own car

You never know..we might see some more cars in the coming 12 months or so though. So many rumours

No matter what though, 2WD 1/16th is a viable class that is growing, albeit slowly.

If you get bored easily then doing 2 classes seems to be the way forwards to kill the time between rounds

The chunk looks the nuts and I really hope the class grows as I would love to run 2 cars ...all I have to do is find a chunk? anybody?

the chunk is a kit build using parts mainly from the b4 then other bits from carisima gt14b and custom made bits from phat bodies fair bit of work involved but great car

the mini t the cosie is on about I race against every week at broughton and scotty keeps getting faster. micro x was his first run out with that chassis so by the time the nationals come round watch out chunks. The kit is an exotek pro uk used to be able to get them from dms for about £100 for that you got a brand new mini t pro and the conversion kit

i have also heard rumblings about some other conversion's in the offing just a case of watch this space

I'm aware of both conversions, I nearly converted B4 and relevant extra parts to a chunk a few months back but ended up doing another atomic carbon 1/10 instead ...I nearly got the exotek also but my mates all run micro 4wd so I stayed that side...I'm going to perhaps do the chunk if PhatBodies will still produce kits before crimbo

they have just changed the kit to include an ali chassis instead of the carbon one they say it helps with how the car handles and you dont need to do as much work on the b4 front end to fit it now

I'm going to be trying out my Exotec MXB chassis (losi mini t pro based) very soon - its the shorter UK chassis - anyone have any thoughts about this one.

To tighten things up I have replaced front and rear suspension parts with K-factory parts; Running ezrun 25A with 18T motor (12T on the way).

I will be running standard losi wheels and tyres - whats the benefit of moving up to 1/10 size wheels? Does this put more stress on the running gear? Are the smaller wheels more "agile"?

Cool! having the ali chassis down in this scale will be nice, I pressume it is bound to give less flex aswell?

not sure what the idea is regarding going to ali they say the extra weight helps and during the build on the original you had to do alot of dremel work on the front of the b4 chassis/ steering bottom plate with the ali chassis they have already added the kick up so no more dremel work on lower chassis and i turn think it will give less flex

I know that thetoyz.com sell 1/10 wheel adapters for the Mini T and I've seen them on the Thunder Tiger ZT2, but don't know what they go like.

DMS do still have the offer on the Mini T Pro + Exotek chassis.

The trouble with most of the commercially available 2wd cars is that they just fall apart. They're just not up to racing on the tracks we race on, ask me how I know

Scotts little Mini T conversion at the Micro X went really well, and was easily as fast as the Chunks, maybe a little less consistent but just as fast. But even his car suffered with parts failure I believe.

We do have some Chunk kits available for sale, but not many, and with the grief I've had getting parts made it will never be many !!!

If anyone is interested get in touch ....

What we really need is for a big manufacturer to make one ....

Yeah Becky ..

I've got a chassis almost done for that conversion too LOL...have a huge amount of Ansmann bits.. I'm trying to get Lower arms though that I don't have to cut up like you do for the Chunk...Any suggestions from you're other half or is he cutting the originals ?

he said use TC4 TC5 rear arms and you just have to shave the ends off to make them fit

Excellent... I'll get in touch when I'm closer to that part of development...

I'm currently designing and prep'ing a new chassis and shock towers. The first MiniRat (as I call it) chassis is ready for some prototyping so I'll CnC a couple and once I'm happy I'll arrange to send teamorsum96 one.

I'm basing all my designs around the standard Madrat grearbox... not sure if I need to do something new for a Mad monkey.

Here is a CAD image of my current MiniRat Chassis.

Top work Madrat or Monkey should be really good as a micro .....

and maybe then we can have some competition for Chunk at the nationals this year ! and maybe even grow the class to 2 heats

If you need/want any help with ideas to make this work, I have experience

Good luck ....

and get this posted on Ukmicro .....
