Default Which esc?

Hi, I have recently got back into rc after a long break.
How things have changed! lol

Anyway I am looking at getting a brushless system for off road 2wd and 4wd. At the moment i can only afford one esc for both cars.

I have been offered a used lrp sxx tc for £80, the same price as a new xerun 120a sd (v2.1) would one be better than the other or are the much the same? Any other recommendations new or used around this price?

Cheers
Alan

lots of people swear by the lrp but ive run the hobbywings for ages and love the smooth power delivery and the adjustabilitly with the programmers. Id rather use the handheld tuning boxes than count flashes, listen for beeps, and hope and pray youve done it right. Just my opinion of course

HobbyWing, smooth, reliable, easy to tune/setup and more than enough features for everybody.

If you wanted something with a "known brand" on then you have to consider the Orion R10 ...

Isn't that just a Hobbywing with an Orion sticker on it?

Not that I'm knocking Hobbywing, I'm hopefully gonna get one myself soon.

Any inside info on when the v3 is out?

V3 sometime in quater 1 next year ... no more info than that.

The Orion R10 has some specs that the HobbyWing V2.1 doesn't have but not the spec of the V3.

The Orion is a quality ESC without doubt and if you want to have the reasurance of a big brand name then the Orion will give you that.

I personally use 120A HobbyWing units even though I run Orion for cells and motors.

I have had a few people suggest that they bought the Speed Passion ESCs (also OEM by HobbyWing) as "the brand has prestige" ... to some people having the right logo is more important than the performance of the equipment.

The reason I recomend the Orion over the Speed Passion is that the SP ESCs offer nothing extra over the HobbyWing equivelents where as the Orion R10 does give you a few upgrades over the current HobbyWing range which means you are at least getting "something" extra for the extra cash outlay.

I can assure you that the support for Orion is very good too, as is the HobbyWing via RIE.
