The final day of The Players - The Rematch, saw a continuation of the 'Reedy style' race format - with the racers due an additional 4 rounds of racing to decide the winners. The best four from the total of six races count toward the end results and in the event of point tie (pretty inevitable) then it's the fastest time that decides the order.

4WD elite players action - Moss leading away

Race 45 - 2WD Elite - Round 3.
As the drivers swiftly moved away from the grid, it was Dave 'small wing' Grunhill who moved to the front of the pack, with every driver working hard to keep it clean. He lead like a warrior for the first lap; with Neil Cragg pushing hard on his back door, and pulled a swift move coming around the bottom corner to take the top spot.
Bradders and Nathan Waters weren't far behind and were keen to follow suit, moving into 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Bradders was closing in on Cragg, gaining half a second per lap to catch up with his team mate. Nathan Ralls rolled off the Big Jump, and Grant Williams in 4th place was pushing hard to catch up, but the top 3 were out of sight. Alec Springer held on tight to the last place for much of the race, but eventually also managed to make it past the once-leader Grunhill.

An error from Bradders approaching the loop saw Cragg extend his lead up to 4 seconds, Bradders was back on his wheels and once again pushing for the lead, reducing the gap to 1.5 seconds, but it wasn't enough and Cragg sailed through to victory with another ONE.

Race 46 - 2WD Elite - Round 3.
Danny caught some moisture on the track coming off the start line, and his car was slipping all over the place all the way down to the back of the pack, whilst Lee Martin moved straight into the lead with TomCock in 2nd place. Danny McGee was quick to start working his way back up the order, and a sausage roll from Dan Austin coming over the double jump saw Danny move up into 3rd place. Danny was putting in the fastest laps - up to one second faster than Lee, in a drastic effort to catch the leaders, but Lee up front had pulled a 2 second lead. Steve Pierce and Griff were dancing closely together further back the order, with some close side-by-side racing and the occasional nudge and tickle. Danny McGee rolled coming off the big jump and Tom Cockerill caught a track marker, Danny was hot on his tail though and soon slipped through into second place. More errors from TomCock saw him drop further down the order, whilst the battling duo - Steve and Andy moved up to 3rd and 4th place. In all it was quite exciting, Lee walked away with the win 18 seconds ahead of 2nd place Danny.

By the end of round three of the Players format races - the midway point - Lee Martin and Neil Cragg both had a perfect score in the 2WD Elite class but Lee's faster winning time gave him the position in the leaderboard. Ben Jemison was an inspiring third overall with two wins.

Cragg rounds onto the straight and almost into the wall

In the 4WD class - Neil Cragg was the only driver with a perfect score - though Simon Moss and Paul Bradby were looking very fast. Durango muscleman Craig Collinson was also onto a good one with a couple of wins and after a recent switch to the Durango from the 501X Graham North was up there with the big boys.

Round 4.

Race 56
This was 'The Showdown' between Steve Pierce and Richard Coates, with their fanclub (there was only one, shared between the two) on standby the air was tense, would Steve take the win and victory, or would Coatsey step in to save the day?

From the start line the pair collided - OOOOOF, Steve coming out in 3rd place and Coatsey in 4th. Rob Rasey was the man in the lead though. Steve and Coatsey continued to battle it out for a while, an error from Steve saw Coatsey move up a place, but Catsey ended up on his roof and Steve was soon up there racing with Rasey for the lead. In his eagerness to overtake, Steve accidentally clipped Rasey as they came over the double together, but ever the gentleman Steve waited patiently for Rasey to line up his car, and then the race resumed. Steve wasn't kept waiting long though, and soon the lead was his, whilst Coatsey was binning it much further back. Rasey dropped back to 4th place, whilst Leon was waving around randomly in 6th.

Rob Raseys gearbox was crunching up some shizzle for the last couple of laps, but still the 1/8th offroad leg-end managed to finish in 3rd place.
Vermin took the win and made history, whilst Coatsey finished all the way back in 4th place.

Race 57
This race was a bit standard really, featuring Mark Musgrove from Schumacher stardom, MC-DC Dave Church, and 13 year old up and coming hero Ashley Caunt.
DC took the lead, with Ashley in 3rd place. Muzzy was seen jumping the Big One like a true touring car warrior. Chaos ensued on the track as some pipe was laid across the downslope of the big jump, Leon - marshalling nearby, had no idea what the audience were shouting at him for, when Grant 'the plumber' Williams who had been standing observing from race control, was across the track like a whippet to clear up the mess.

DC lost the lead, and ended up further back the field, most certainly not 'getting it done'.

Danny McGee was running a modified Losi / Atomic Carbon CR2 with an aluminium chassis he designed and made himself. The chassis is obviously heavier than the stock carbon fibre chassis to keep the centre of gravity low but Danny is already planning on a new version made from much thicker alloy plate with machined-out areas to keep the major components as low as possible.

Danny poses with his shiney chassis'd CR2

Interview with Pavel Balint from Slovakia

Tell us about your hat, are the legends true?
Actually it's at home, I don't know if it's true or where it comes from. I have had the hat for about one year. I'm the only one in slovakia who wears a hat like this,

where does your username loch ness come from?
My parents company is called nessie, they have the loch ness for their logo, I actually like the idea of the unknown monster,.

What is the most drivers you have ever competed against at a local event?
The most drivers was here, back home the most was about 30.

How has your trip to England been so far? Is this your first time in our homeland?
Not enjoyed the travel because it was about 8 hours to Bratislav, then 2 hours by plane. I have liked everyone that I have met though.
If I have money and time I will come back for more events.

I visited my uncle in Huddersfield a few years ago, that wasn't for racing though.

Have you made many friends since  you arrived?
I know many people from oOple, this is the first time I have met them in person.

What is your favourite mode of transport?
Hard to say, I travel by bus mostly.

Is 1/10 electric offroad racing a popular hobby in Slovakia?
Touring cars are more popular because we can run them all year. We dont run off-road in winter.

Race 58
Off the start line and Footy rammed it straight into the wall, Joffrey slipped through into second place but binned it, and Jeff 'Wayayman' Steele moved straight into 1st place. Pavel moved up into 2nd  with Dave 'TamiyaDave' Gibson right behind him, but he messed up and binrolled off the double.

Footey was catching up in 5th place whilst Joffrey was on another planet, still in the third spot. Joffrey and TamiyaDave came together, and Footey was right on their backdoor.

Meanwhile up-front Pavel was pushing hard to catch Wayayman, whilst TamiyaDave slipped through past Joffrey as they approached the double. Pavel had a tangle with Wayayman and took over the leader position. Bringing up the rear was Graham 'blitzboy' Smith, who was happily driving around with half of the track adhered to his car.

Wayayman was keeping up with new leader Pavel, and sniffing all over his claypit, edging towards having a dig, but subsequently rolled it into a wall.
Overall slovakian hero Pavel took the win, with TamiyaDave taking the number 2 spot, and oOple hero

Joffrey sticking it in 3rd place - like some sort of booby prize.

race 68
Damo punted himself off the startline whilst Ellis Stafford, Simon Moss, and Lee Martin owned the track in that start order. Griffiths and Bradders followed closely behind.
Mossy was all over leader Ellis' backdoor, begging for the 2wd British champ to make an error. Bradders pulled off away from Griff, whilst Lee Martin pulled off the track alltogether for pitman John Dell to wrench on his car, superstyle, and was back on the track just a lap later. Ellis was starting to pull a decent lead on second place moss, and as bradders started to close in on  the Schumacher warrior he made an error coming up to the loop, loosening the gap for lead man Ellis.

Lee Martin meanwhile continued to make mistakes at the back of the field as he pushed hard to catch up with his peers. Ellis by now had a 1.5second lead but Mossy was pushing to close in, moving closer to Ellis and looking for room to pass.
Ellis slid out on the bottom corner, and Moss was through into the lead but an error from Moss coming over the double saw Ellis re-gain the lead place.
Losing his momentum Moss went on to clip a track marker, and Bradders closed in on his tail. The two cars collided coming over the double jumps and approaching the big-one. In an exciting build up of close racing, Bradders then made his pass coming off the big jump, and pushed hard to catch up with Ellis, who by now had pulled a 2 second lead. More mistakes from Moss saw him drop further back.
In the final miliseconds Ellis made it through for a 16th lap, whilst Bradders crossed the line just as the finish tone sounded, making Ellis' final lone lap really quite boring, but seeing him secure the win for this race.
Damian Whittle was in the race too, but he was too far back for anyone to notice, he was probably lapped by the leaders a few times though.

Bond - Stevey Bond! - a bit special

race 79
Springer binned it on the straight at the very start of the race, Pavel moved into the lead with Coatsey in 2nd place, followed by Springer, grant Williams and Griffiths. Coatsey performed an acrobatic flip, and Danny McGee made his move from the back of the field. A spin out from Pavel saw Danny McGee dancing on his tail,  and made a swift pass as the two drove through the centre section. Griff was holding onto 3rd place but by now Coatsey was somewhere miles back. Springer had sprung (chortle) back to 4th place.

Danny started to pull a lead, and was soon lapping Coatsey at the rear end. The race became a bit boring then because all cars were so spread out there was no real neck and neck racing. But anyway Danny won 17 seconds ahead of second place Griffiths, and Grant Williams bummed out of the race just a couple of laps in due to mechanical issues.

race - 80
With a current win rate of 100%, Neil wasn't about to give up his perfect score, so slipped straight into the number one spot, whilst chaos ensued behind him on the double jumps when James Helliwell and Tom cockerill became caught up and shifted down the order. Cragg lead the pack around, with Ralls, Grunhill, Helliwell, Cockerill and young up-and-coming superstar Ashley caunt.

A close race followed between Tom and James, when Tom shit out and flipped in the bottom corner, James was soon pushing to catch up with Grunhill. Neil had by now pulled a fairly safe lead, with Ralls holding on to 2nd place. Tom Cockerill made a series of errors but maintained a close proximity to James Helliwell. Tom was slobbering all over James' gearbox, and made his move on the mat corner, but this was closely followed by a flip off the big jump, James saw his opportunity and swiftly moved straight past Tom and Grunhill. Tom was quickly back on his wheels and quick to catch up with James and apply some pressure to his rear, looking for an opportunity to pass. James hit the dust and spun out on the bottom corner, he and Tom swapped and changed positions as they manoevured around the track, whilst by this stage Cragg was coming around to lap the dancing duo.
More fancy flips and trips coming off the double jumps saw Grunhill struggling and James behind Tom.

With 50 seconds left on the clock the three cars were racing closely, Tom tripped off the double jump and James came through with Grunhill hot on his rear. an error from Grunhill coming off the big jump and landing beneath it relieved some of the pressure and gave Tom Cock some chance to get closer to James, but his chances were dashed when once again he flipped coming over the mats - easy of the throttle chief.

Oh, and then Neil won.

race 86
John Dell lead the race up front, guarding his backdoor from Leon not far behind, followed  by Bondy. Greg 'superthumbs' Williams was pushing hard to catch up having had an unlucky start to the race. Leon took the lead from Dell-boy, no doubt with some high flying trickery, leaving Dell and Bondy battling for 2nd place in the dust behind him.
Greg had caught up, and some close racing ensued between the speedy-thumbed warrior and Bondy, whilst the two closed in on Leon. In an accidental collision whilst tackling the big jump, Greg and Bondy had a coming together, seeing Bondy come off worst, but ever the gentleman the young Greg waited patiently for Bondy to be marshalled and backon the racing line before he continued to race, receiving praise from the mighty MCDC through the speakers.
Greg was now in 2nd place and hot on the pursuit of Leon, but not quite getting close enough as Leon took the win for this race.

Epic cells will be homologated for 2010 competition I believe

XFactory UK
were very generous in donating raffle prizes including Epic Lipo Batteries, a Trinity LIPO Charge Sack, Vampire LIPO and Grease, an Azarashi X6 Bodyshell, Dirt Dialled Partz for the X6 - Hangars and Brace and MIP items.

The organisers were much appreciative of XFactory UK’s sponsorship for the players, who were keen to show some of their existing brands off on the raffle table and also newer ones such as Trinity and MIP.

Part motor - part terminator

Trinity was one of the first big name brands 80's and 90's with numerous national titles and of course powering legendary blonde driver and former Trinity world champion Joel 'magic' Johnson. They had been a little quite in the off-road scene until
recently however but with their new range of EPIC Nemesis brushless motors and Team Epic Lipos they're sure to feature in the tech charts of the big races in 2010.

Xfactory UK are also distributing MIP products, another 80’s wonderbrand headed by engineering officianado Eustace Moore. MIP products have been consistently some of the best quality items on the RC market for 30 years including the trademarked CVD’s. Amazingly we counted 71 different types of cars (and probably more) which MIP currently make hopups for!

race 91
An exciting start to this race, to the cheers and excitement of the audience, Leon slammed his car into the wall alongside the straight before even moving forwards, smashing a wheel off his car and proceeding to take out the more competitive drivers as he attempted to drive his write off around the track.
DC and the crowd were soon jeering and shouting for Leon to pull off, but with a characteristic glint in his eye Leon remained on the track and decided to give it death. Stu Evans meanwhile had bezzed away and left all the carnage behind him, smoothly sliding around in 2nd place, whilst Muzzy was bringing up the rear touring car style.
Gaz Stanton had a really poor run in this race, mainly because he was still asleep under the table in a pub nearby.
Stuart was receiving some rear end pressure from 3rd place, but kept on his wheels and moving in the right direction, nice work. Steele was leading the race from start to finish, despite Stuarts being the fastest car on the track, and plenty of effort to catch up, too many mistakes from the Mervin looky-likey prevented any sort of lead time.

Race boss Muzzy made it as far as 4th place, but finished in 5th.

race 101
This was going to be a boring race when someone mis-informed me that Neil had already won the event and everyone would just be racing for 2nd place. Wrong! In fact Neil was leading and looked good for the victory, but either Simon Moss or Paul Bradby could still win the 4wd players trophy if they won this race with a faster time than Neils best time. OK tough challenge, but these guys are players, so rock on...
Anyway predictably Neil Cragg was leading the race, going pretty fast as you might expect. But then coming over the big jump, possibly, an error occured, and Paul Bradby who had really been homing in his big buddy Cragg, moved into the lead.
By now Bradders was on fire (not actually combusting, because then the floor would be damaged and the leisure centre would probably kick us all out before the prize giving, which would be a bit of a shame), and he was keeping on the pace with Neil Craggs best time, all he  needed was a clean run and to keep to the pace in order to win the event.
His fan club in the audience were willing him on, and DC was quite literally going off his pups on the mic, in awe at this amazing run. Bradders crossed the loop to take the win from legend Neil Cragg, just milliseconds ahead of Craggs best time, but it was enough to crown Paulo Bradders the 4wd Elite Player. Ave it!

Both Elite Players classes and open Players classes were won by drivers with perfect scores! (4 wins) - so it was all about the fastest time. Chris Steward got it done in 2WD open class with his mighty B4 whilst Steve Pierce took the victory in open 4WD - both drivers would have faired well in the Elite class it seems. Cragg got it done in 2WD Elite and narrowly got pipped to the line in the 4WD class at the last minute by team mate and chum Paul Bradby. Awesome stuff.

With the event a success and the winners sorted it was decided to run a so-called "Dash 4 Kash" race. The top finishing drivers from 2WD and 4WD elite players classes were offered the chance to race head-to-head with a reverse grid - so the winners started from the back to make things more interesting.

Kash Kahn and his lady Gemma Towers. Kash wasn't actually the prize - it was 'cash'. Many people were misled.

It was only seconds from the start it was announced that there had been a misunderstanding and North East racer Kash Kahn wasn't to be offered as a take-home prize for the lucky winners after all. Instead it was announced that the lucky winners would take home a neat little bundle of CASH money-notes - with 2nd and 3rd place also receiving smaller amounts.

2WD DASH 4 CASH
With the contenders starting the race in reverse order (not driving backwards around the track as I had initially thought this meant) TeamBoy Ben Jemison was in second and was following closely behind pole-man Ellis Stafford. Ellis flipped and Ben went through with Danny McGee through into 2nd place.
Then it was all actually really confusing, there were cars crashing everywhere, TomCockerill nudged Bradders into the track marker but patiently waited for him to be marshalled and back in the race. Danny McGee took hold of the lead, followed by Nathan Waters, BenJem and Ellis Stafford.

TomCockerill at the back of the field continued to have poor luck, meeting with Lee Martin as the two cars approached the
loop, and needing to do a three point turn to get back in the race.

Danny McGee and Nathan Waters were racing closely, a little two closely in fact as the two cars came together and both ended up flipping and facing the wrong way. As the pair straightened themselves out, Ellis and BenJem came flying around the corner and took out a leader each. As 5 very similar looking cars went flying off down the straight together, TomCock was performing handbrake turns on the loop to try and get some extra laps in.
I think by some fluke BenJem managed to take the lead again, followed by Danny McGee, Ellis Stafford, Bradders, Cragg,
Martin, Cockerill.

Top superstars

Anyway some madness happened as a bunch of cars came up to the loop, and Ellis saw his chance to take the lead, Nathan and Danny raced closely in a bid to double team Ellis and whip him for the lead. Meanwhile Tomcock continued to perform some acrobatics at the back in an attempt to distract the audience from all the dirty driving at the front ;) So much so in fact that murmurings in the audience were that Tom was actually under the influence of a debatably-legal substance.
With that distraction in mind, Ellis was leading the race ahead of Bradders, Cragg and Nathan waters. Not sure what
happened to everyone else, they were probably taken out whilst trying to lap the wayward Tom.

Ellis leads them off

CHAOS! when money is involved all rules go out.

Ellis was pulling away slightly whilst Neil was closing in on Bradders. The two raced closely together and moved in on Ellis, when coming over the mats Bradders had some form of altercation and Cragg moved into 2nd place. The finish tone sounded and Ellis was just out of reach of the chasing Cragg, Ellis took the win and top prize, whilst Cragg finished 2nd place and Bradders in 3rd.

4WD DASH 4 CASH
In a relatively uneventful start to the final race of this event, Nathan ralls took the lead and cleanly navigated around the track, followed closely by Grant Williams, Ellis Stafford and  Paul Bradby. Grant flipped approaching the big jump and Ellis was promoted to 2nd place, and Craig 'Hulk' Collinson up to 3rd place.
Ellis was all over Ralls' gearbox, pressuring for a mistake or opportunity to move past. Throwing down the fastest laps in the race, Neil Cragg was now up to third place, and eager to claim cash for more than just fastest lap he was pushing for the lead.
Ralls put up a good fight to defend his lead but caved in under the pressure as he mounted the mat corner. Ellis was playing this game like a gentleman though, and waited for Ralls to get his bearings, Ralls handbrake turned to get back into position but by now was caught up in chaos as the pack nailed him from behind.
In the chaos Neil Cragg had stealthily slipped through into the lead, and Ellis was now pursuing his gearbox. Williams and Collinson were racing closely in 3rd and 4th place. Simon Moss was closing in and was up to 5th place.
Gasps of horror erupted from Neils fanclub as he flipped coming off the big jump, and Ellis moved in closer. Quick marshalling and responsive thumbs saw Neil hold on to his lead though, and with pound signs in his eyes he set off to kick the dust up on Ellis. As Neil approached the  loop he took the corner too wide, and Ellis moved in to slip through, but Neil lost his bearings and the two collided. Once again patient driving from Ellis saw Neil reclaim the lead, and this time it was
Ellis to be shunted off the track as the passing tribe came though, costing Ellis valuable places.

Cragg nibbles on Grants CAT

Moss

Neil Cragg lead Craig Collinson and Grant Williams around the track, whilst swapping and changing continued behind them. Paul Bradby moved up to 4th, whilst up-front Craig Collinson took the lead from Cragg. Hearing Kloes cries of desperation that the 'leccy bill needs paying, Cragg frantically darted around Hulks rear end, looking to pass, when in a brave attempt coming through the hairpin, Cragg slipped through and kicked Craig up in the air. Collinson was quickly marshalled but had lost £30 in the clash.
Neil Cragg was back in the lead with less than 1 minute to go, with Bradders in 2nd place. The two kept close together but Cragg was holding onto this win, taking the £30 just a fraction of a second away from 16 laps, and winning the prize for fastest lap in the race.

Phew - the second running of the Players event was a huge success with a glut of top drivers and an even more exciting race format than the first event, with all the racers running the reedy-style format. Big money prizes provided by Schumacher and some great prizes supplied by the sponsors capped off a great meeting. Bring on the next one! :)
