Spit on it

to cold and it just sits there

just right and it'll start to steam straigth away

to hot and it'll be dancing all over the head like a cat on a hot tin roof

or about 220-260 f if you have a temp gun

oh and no oyesters as they give the wrong reading

That only works when the outside temp is reasonable. In the winter engines will not get up to 250 unless they are too lean.

been racing ic for years, seen all sorts. What i found the cheap guns are not accurate, use them as a guide and replace batteries regular. i have a 200 quid temp gun and it stays in my box most of time. Tune your engine for performance, as long as you have smoke and power your ok. At uros in holland i tuned my engine to my normal temp and it was guttless. Factory guy set it and had loads power My pit man later checked temp and it was over 300f but ran fine.use a temp gun to moniter engines, not tune em. if engine goes off for no reason, check fuel pipes for leak carb and head tight, but first try a new plug. Clutches also have allot to do with engine temps.
