prepping tires for B4

I am going to prep the tires for a friend of mine, who hasn't driven his B4 in years. As I drive 4Wd myself.. I have forgotten how the tires for a 2WD are prepped.

He still has some Shum Minipins Yellow Rear and Schum Staggered yellow, so these should do when the grass is dry and short.
But I would like to pre some Schum MiniSpikes Front and Rear in case of longer grass and/or wet.

My question now: should I mount inserts into the Front-tyres?
I know a lot of drivers who mount their Front-tyres without inserts when gluing Staggered ... but what with MiniSpikes

... and also, why?
