R/c for the kids

My little girl is loving daddy's rc car at the moment. We picked her up a cheapie monster truck from ebay for her birthday which broke in 5 mins

I wondered what did you start the kids with, and have you got any recommendations?

Criteria would need to be cheap(ish), suitable for bashing (not likely to go to tracks etc) easy to control and replaceable parts for when it's slammed into a kerb...
