Still have my B4 Stealth from 2003 bought from Morley Models. Original Cyclone Esc and KO Servo. It's more like triggers broom tho, lol

The Kyosho RB6.6 came with all motor configurations in the box including rear motor. These parts will also fit the latest RB7

This bodes another question...... can a 10-15 year old car compete against the likes of the schumacher and kyosho cars of today that have kept an option of rear motor...... Will this become a fair match ???

Correct me if i'm wrong, but not on high grip surfaces. Maybe closer in the wet. Be interesting to see but I even think dirt/low grip versions of mid cars would still lap faster. All depends on the driver too.

I was referring to the comparison of a 10-15 year old rear motor car versus a modern day rear motor car.

I'd have thought they'd be pretty similar. The gearbox on my B3 really isn't that different to the B6 bar the obvious layout change. The internals are very much alike. Only thing i miss on the B3 is a gear diff.
What else has been a big change in 10-15 years? Big bore shocks? Tyres? All things that you could retro fit if you wanted to. Certainly the gearbox on a B3/4 can handle current brushless motors no problem, apart from the fact you'll wheelie every where on high grip! |

Agreed - I would have thought the suspension geometry is very similar and the B4 gearbox innards are robust (just no decent gear diff). I would think a B4.2 Or rear motored B5 would be very comparable to/competitive with those previously mentioned “modern” rear motor buggies.

All B5’s are rear motor Toby. Otherwise they would be B5M’s

I have been considering converting my X-6 squared back to a B4 as I am more likely to run it that way. I have a B6.1 so the mid motor car is covered. Nothing wrong with the X-6, just nowhere relevant to race it these days.

This thread is popular. Lol.
I think even if rear motor cars are not really a car for manufacturers to persue......they live are still going strong in the minds of racers. |

There's just something rewarding in driving a car that can and need to be hustled to go fast.
Which is one of the reasons rear motor cars are enjoyable. The other one obviously being nostalgia. Saying that I love driving my B3 runner and building a nice spec B5 to be able to continue to run RM for fun. |

I might get my B4 out when we finally get racing and see if I can get it handling as well as the B3. |

To offer another spin on the rear motor thing.. anyone think a rear motor could ever be made faster than a mid motor on high grip. Bearing in mind the new Porsche 911 gt2 has just set a ridiculous record time around the famous German track...ahem,, in front of the Ferraris and McLaren's with its engine at the back. I know it's a totally different kettle of fish but principally it's a car with the heavy bit in the wrong place and it raised a question in my mind. Could a rear motor car be made competitive and if so...how.
Obviously there will be people shouting no way but it's all for fun. |

I'm afraid the gt2 rs has the motor so far forward that it's not actually a rear motor car, weight balance 39/61 is the territory of mid engine...
So as much as I like driving rear motor rc, mid motor will be quicker on anything but v.low grip. |

Your spoiling the fun here mate. You know that don't you.....lol

You'll never overcome the basic physics of having that much weight out back beyond the rear axle. You could add weight to bring the balance further forward but then you end up with a heavy car. As you turn in the effect of having the mass at the rear on high grip is obvious, the car just wants to sit down on the rear and you end up loosing what little front grip you did have. On successive left/right sections its even more amplified.
Still a good low grip set up though. |

I don't know if anyone would remember but the Durango dex210 had the ability to run either 3 or 4 gears in rear motor guise. What difference would the 4 gear make in rear motor ?.
