Which one would you recommend for racing?

depends what equipment you have and what level you want to race at

the xxx4 will accept a stick pack battery

the B44 will only accept a saddle pack battery config but will perform better on the track (especially if there is any kind of bump on the track)

Where will you be racing it? How many people there race each car?

If more people drive a certain model, then you're more likely to get some advice, and if you break a part, someone is likely to have a spare. Get a car that no-one else has, and you'll get limited advice and a smaller chance of anyone having spares on the night.

I would recommend B44 - mainly as its a very popular club car. Doughty is right in that you would need saddle lipo packs for the B44, but I think in the long term it would be a nicer handling car, which is easier to setup.

And the B44 is cheaper, the difference is the majority of a lipo saddle pack.

I have raised another question about saddle LiPo packs. Take a look at this, for example. Will I have to use one piece, or both?

If I have to use one piece, which is 4500mAH, what will be the difference in run-time with a 4500mAH LiPo stick pack? Or will it be the same?

You use both parts of the saddle pack. They're just the same as a single stick pack but split in two for those models where there isn't enough room to sit a stick pack in. Instead, you have a saddle pack with one part on each side of of the model, or if the model can take a stick pack , you just put the 2 saddles next to each other to form what looks like a stick pack.

There's no real performance benefit as such between a stick pack and saddle pack. But saddles give you may options when it comes to the balance of your car, because you can put a saddle on each side of the car, where as with a stick pack, it's usually the battery down one side, and your electrics down the other.

I'm just using NIMH stick pack batteries in my ZX-5.

Right, okay.

But what confuses me is that how can I link both of them up? I mean there have to be one Dean connector to connect the ESC... do I have to buy a Dean connector with four wires?

If you click on the picture below you'll see that there is a black wire with bullet connectors on each end, this goes between the two packs, connecting them.
