Returning to 1/10
Revisiting my youth and looking to get a 1/10 off road 4wd buggy RTR. But do not know what is a good buy.
Should I go for brushed or brushless and can you recommend any cars. Seen Ansmann Racing Blizzard (Brushed and Blushless) and Thunder Tiger Sparrowhawk XB (Brushed and Blushless). Looking to spend no more than £250 including radio, battery and fast charger. Appreciate any advice. |

Brushless, Lipo Batteries, 2.4g radio a must. B44, Kyosho, Ansmann lots of choice, make sure its well supported, best to visit a local club and see what others are running, then you will get setup advice (you don't have to take it) there is a chance or spare parts from other racers and you will have lots of questions that need answers.

Thanks for this. Much appreciated. Do you know anything of the Thunder Tiger off road buggy range?

Being honest here Paul
Ive never seen one on a track so I couldn't recommend one as a first 4wd. As Mick (JCJC) says get to your local track and have a see what they run there. Keep your money in your pocket for now. Maybe try 2wd first ?? That will be less costly from my experience and get you in to the swing of things I'd recommend an Ansmann x2c ... You can't go wrong Good luck whatever you decide on.

You won't see many Thunder Tiger's at the track. That doesn't mean it is a bad car, it just means that setup advice and spare parts will be harder to come by.
The Ansmann's are more common, they have made more of an effort to be part of the racing community. As far as the electrics go, a lot of the very basic sensorless systems have quite a notchy throttle feel. Most racers end up replacing them quite soon. I think this notchiness gets in the way of learning (or re-learning) to drive so would suggest a brushed car, but I am in the minority, hence the ever decreasing range of brushed RTRs! The best advice is to get down to the local club and see what is being run. I've seen a few of the budget 4wd's run (LRP Blast, Kyosho Lazer Readyset) and they are generally OK, maybe the odd part will need upgrading as you go along. But that wouldn't be much good if 2wd is the most popular class at the club! In 2wd, the Associated B4.1 is the obvious RTR choice. |

Sorry to hijack, but do clubs run stadium truck/truggy classes any more, or is it now mainly buggy and short course?
I'm about to buy an Ansmann Macnum kit, mainly for bashing, but it might be nice to join a club at some point.
