Vega b4 gen1 gearbox tolerances
I've just bought a used vega b4 conversion and notice a lot play in gearbox where the ball diff bearings goes and the idler bearings. Is this normal? I'm using tape around the big bearing to solve this, there's also horizontal play as well. Around 2-3 mm movement with the ball diff.
Anyone experience this? |

Bit strange as all the Vega gearbox I have had, gen1,2 have all been spot on.
There is some stuff called bearing retainer loctite produce: http://www.loctite.co.uk/retaining-4479.htm Give that a go? |

Make sure you have the correct bearings!
The B4 is an imperial, The B4.1 & 2 are metric... (I'm sure its that way around) There is no way the box should have any play, the are all CNC machined so every box is exactly the same. Give or take a tiny tiny tolerance. |

The bearings for a b4.1 are Metric which should solve the play issue.

Thank you for your reply guys!
I've measured the diameter and it's 11mm, could it be a gearbox for Kyosho rb5? |

You need the proper outdrives and bearings.
The gen3 vega is made for the B4.1, which is metric. And the outdrives have an edge the bearings sit agianst making it wider, the b4 outdrives don't have that. Roel - that's spot on, the outdrives with the ridge on them look like they'll do that exact job. I hadn't spotted them before because the place I usually order parts from displays the photo of them such that you can't see the extra ridge! Thanks a million for your help.
