Default My lazer restore finished with the mystery part

This was my first RC car. I bought this Lazer ZX-R MKll back in 1990-92, it was so long ago I don't remember exactly. Originally I had a futaba radio, Tekin 411 P2 speed control, sanyo 2400 batteries and a race prep motor. I later crashed it and broke the front shock stay and put it away for a while. When I decided to pick it up a few years later, I couldn't get too many parts for it, so I fabbed a front shock stay out of aluminium changed the speed control to a novac rooster and crashed it again. This time I only bent the front shock stay. Because parts were so hard to find back then I decided to put it away. So now, almost 20 years later, with the internet and the help of Isobarik,Welshy and Ema(not to mention a lot of money) its been restored to better than new condition.

I decided to change a couple of little details to make it, in my opinion, a little more pleasing to the eye. The front shock stay was hand made by me using the broken shock stay and frame I found at a hobby shop. I went with lunsford titanium turnbuckles because the problem with the originals is that the moment you touch them they're scratched and look bad. The wheels are original part number but in white to match my mystery part. The wing is my mystery part, it's original kyosho but I don't remember from what buggy. I think it was from the kyosho inferno 10. What's really nice about it is that it's exactly what the original wing looks like only formed on hard plastic. The only thing still missing is a complet body kit, witch I hope kamtec will make soon.

When I think about it you can't really call this a restoration, when all the parts on it exept for the diffs and front gearbox are original. This is really a new build.

Hope you enjoyed the histoy of my lazer, here are some pics.

Nice work. Looks great. Kamtec will very soon have the tomcat shell so makes this evan more appealing to the eye than the zxr shell.

Great work !!!
Your car looks really good, also the bling (and expensive)turnbuckles are nice !!

About the wing seems that you are a very very lucky guy .....
The latest version of our lazer, the Zx-rr comes with some further updates, shocks, tires, hyper clutch and ..... a white plastic wing !!!

So your wing is sitting definitely in its place !!!!
(see the following images stolen from tamiya club)

Bye
Ema
P.S. Hope to start my racer next week .... stay tuned !
P.S.S. So you got two "old yellow" rear wheels for sale ? Sounds interesting .....

Thanks for the coments, I want to see other people's restores. Post your MKl....MKll....ZX-RR, something I've never seen built, and of course theholy grail zxs.

So the wing is from a zx-rr, wow I had no clue. Thanks Ema. Don't tell thats your zx-rr I'm extremely jealous. If you want my old wheels you can have them, but why waste them on racing, you obviously know that kyosho still makes them because you told me. Buy a new set, these are petty banged up anyways.

Hey welshy why don't you give Keith a hand or a hug or something, maybe he'll get those bodies out quicker. Did the link I posted help you

You don't have to be jealous, unfortunately the Zx-rr is not mine .... I only stole some photo from a TamiyaClub member:

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_m...72724&id=20464

There are a lot of other nice Lazers out there, but unfortunately the search engine on this site is not as good as for the Tamiya branded models.

I will let you know something in the future for your wheels, obviously they will not be used for racing .

Bye
Ema

Its been sold to a chap on Oople. If you want a good esc buy the LRP SXX or if brushed motors the Tekin 410K. Unfortunately the Tekin Brushless is not as potent as the LRP, so it had to go.

I like power but need to still work out how to tame this beast from wheely's and of course decide on a way forward to get a good setup. In the ZXR I used body roll when everyone said not to yet now everyone is using body roll and the ZXS doesn't like it. Gutted, but thats the fun, making it work. Besides the LRP is blue, and matches the rest of the blue bling on my car.

Andy, well I did have my head in her chest just before the picture so I think was a bit shocked, or maybe was due to having three legs

Im well now thanks, and that picture was two years ago. Now ive designed a lipo tray and using them but have had to add a lot of weight to stop wheelying. The car is almost impossible to set up on high grip surfaces but by redesigning the chassis this has helped. Im now awaiting a brass lipo tray and a brass rear shock tower mount and hope this is the end of the development.
