Cougar SV diff rebuild - whats this for?
I'm about to rebuild my diff and bought a new screw set for it. I am a little perplexed as to where this part fits or what its for as it doesn't seem to be in my old diff or on the instructions. Any help greatfully appreciated. I've circled the part on the piccy.
Thanks Jim |

It's just a cover for dirt protection.

And there was me thinking it was something more exciting , any idea which side needs protecting from dirt more as there's only one?
Just seen the post above - I was a little slow. Thanks for the replies - is it really needed as wasn't in my kit when I built the car? |

Cheers, I think I'll use it as I've got it - can only help.
I assume it's for the side with the thrust bearing so adds that bit of extra protection. |

i used that part instead of the oring. I think the oring was supposed to help keep dirt out? Anyway i never liked the resistance it put on the diff action so i removed the oring and used this new dirt sheild..
I wish schumacher would redesign there diff. I hate the cone washer and locking grub screw. I want an externally adjustable diff that uses a diff spring. Similar to losi. You do not need to remove wheels or camberlinks to adjust. I would also like to see a gear diff(mainly because i am very lazy now and my durango has one and its tuff as nails) |
