Hi can anyone help give a little advise or guidance on the pros and cons of buying one of these two buggies. Its more a shelf queen purchase although it will get raced. I would really appreciate it. Its almost time for santa

I actually had thoughts of getting the yokomo, but Jimmy's review was much better on the 501x.
He sold his yokomo review car sometime ago. So I believe he liked the 501x much better, because he kept it. ![]() It's just too bad there is no more Yokomo USA, or I would have considered it. ![]()

Thanks for the email I really appreciate it. i have just bought a used but in great condition 501X so decision made. I do not believe that it is a WE although it has had a lot of upgrades added ie alloy castor blocks, uprights, steering, sway bar kit , rear alloy wing stay and Aaarashi new un painted shell.
![]() The only thing that it does not have is either a front one way or centre one way. I have read a few threads and am still not sure which parts I need as the 501x and 501x we appear different Is this correct ![]() |

I think 'Shanks' was selling a centre one-way pulley a few weeks ago.
Maybe PM the chap? Ohm... I started with a standard 501x, and slowly added the WE parts; it's mainly the big pulleys, alloy uprights and then the shock shafts. I can't immediately think of anything else. (I believe the HL dampers are an extra optional even for the WE.) It hasn't really cost much, as most of the parts can be obtained from Japan dirt-cheap. There's a brilliant 501x review by Jimmy that's worth a look: http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/review501x/ Also a write-up about the one-way and pulley upgrade: http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/cars/501x/bigbelts/ There's a lot of people that still run the 501x as the only major difference between the 501x and 511x is the ease of maintenance due to the revised bulkhead and top-deck configuration. Best thing is to read through some of the threads in the Tamiya section of this forum, and if you have any questions then just ask... Julius. |

Oh...
Here is a slightly more in-depth look at the one-way front differential. http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/cars/501x/oneway/ Julius. |

Is this correct ![]() Hi Niall, if you are a beginner I would learn to drive the car without either a front one way or a centre one way as they increase steering response and make the car turn in quicker and it is something you need to master and remember it will only brake on the rear, if you are quite experienced then maybe the front one way would be the one to use, if you decide to use a front one way you will need the 36t one way pulley for a non we or a 37t one way pulley for the we, you can use a one way with overdrive I.E 35t one way pulley on non we and 36t pulley on a we but it's a bit 'snatchy' in the corners, you will of course need the front one way unit as well and an adaptor plate for the 36t or 37t one way pulley, parts below: one way unit: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OP951-Tamiya-T...item518c048577 adaptor plate: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OP1006-Tamiya-...item3c9ab3f415 37t one way pulley: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TAMIYA-54023-D...item3a52a945dd 36t one way pulley: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tamiya-53867-T...item518a401a6d you could also use just a centre one way(I think it comes complete but I think you need to be using the we belts and pulleys) with your diff or you can also overdrive the ball diff, but I prefer the front one way myself ![]() |
