Non-cab forward alternative
I want to say something here. Every manufacturer should have at least one alternative shell for their cars as an option.
I have my first cab forward that came with the car and I absolutely hate it. The ugliest thing on that otherwise perfect machine. Thought I would come to like or at least live with it but it is impossible. Please Schumacher. Make an alternative body for my K1!! I don't care if it makes my car handle differently. That I can live with. |

+1, but not just non-cab forward vs. cab-forward... The styling of some shells is just awful to some people. Just to name an example, not everyone liked the TRF501X' shell The 511 shell is not really special but at least you don't love it or hate it (most people anyway it seems).
Ask Bugle, perhaps he could help you out? In the meantime, you could take any 4WD shell with a similar layout as far as the LiPos go and heat it up a bit here and there to shape it neatly around the chassis. Some shells I'd look at if they may fit: - XB4 - SX3? - B44 compatible shells (which gives you a huge amount of options). - Yokomo BMax4 (if you want to alienate other people - and potentially yourself) |

Most of today's shells are ugly. They are just as sqare and designed as an old Volvo 740. No shapes appeling to the eye. With these there is no paintjob that can save them.
A durango style shell would be nice to make us Cab forward haters happy. Bugles shells was awsome. I made a shell of my own before to my B44 and it was a littli bit cab Forward but still much more nicely shaped. Not so sqared. thinking of doing that again but this time design it in a computer and have a company manfacture them Shape up all manufactures and make us some nice shells again. |

For what it's worth I quite like the K1 shell , but I understand the need for alternatives as everyone's taste & style is different , that said it may be worth while getting in touch with Steve Haskins at Penguin Custom bodyshells , I'm sure that if he has enough interest & someone sends him an original shell to copy the basic shape of he would be able to make a smoother looking bodyshell!
His work is awesome and I have NO hesitation in recommending him ! Steve , if I've caused you more work , sorry !! But your shells are excellent mate !

I made this at home a few years back for a B44 but now I can get a professional company to do both the plug and the vacuum forming for me. I only have to do the design. Seriously thinking about it. For all major cars. There must be a market for non cab forward shells.

The shell YZ-10-Hotdog style that Bugle made for the B44 was fantastic
Proper buggy looks!

Gotta say I have to agree with the general sentiment of this thread ...
Phat Bodies have been resisting the Cab Forward trend as much as we can but it seems to be what most peeps want unfortunately .... We've had our latest body for the B44.1/44.2 for sale for a while now and although it is a type of Cab Forward its not your typical ... but we don't sell many Personally I love it ... and it works really well on track ... |

Would be really interesting to see how one of those cab forward actually do in a wind tunnel..
In tc and 12th scale I have absolute proof that aero dynamics makes a huge difference but with heavy slower buggies I am not as sure. Except from when I rear wing was lost once. Pretty undrivable. Just thinking of that massive wall of shock tower in front of that sharply angled front wind screen makes me doubt its true value. |

I heard a rumour that some wind testing was being done on cab forward stuff...early tests showed they make no difference at all to wheel loadings...(and therefore don't add grip or steering!).
Personally...I thought I could feel a difference, and I liked the feel of the cab forward shells when I changed over (despite hating the appearance initially)...but I didn't think it was a front end thing at all...shock towers ruin any airflow over the front of any shell so I really can't see the forward cab doing anything like the claims that are made of them in that area. I do however think that they could effect the airflow at the rear of the car...and to me cars just feel a little more balanced and stable with cab forward. Love to spend some time with a wind tunnel and a smoke machine and see it for myself though!

When I have time to finish our new windtunnel its the first things that going in for some thorough testing !!!
Intial tests showed it made very little difference to front end downforce but actually reduced rear downforce, which is possibly why they make the cars feel more balanced ..... |
